Careers are changing and Gen Z is leading the way. I was told never to “job hop,” and now, people are not only just job hopping, they’re full on industry hopping. And I’m here for it. It makes so much sense - why should people have to lock it in early and never look back, even if they made a misstep or the world started changing and opportunities shifted? Who hasn’t gotten into an industry or role that turned out to be less than (or even just different from) what was expected? ??♀? I’m someone who has switched industries more than a few times because of this, and it has always been the right move for me and added a lot to my professional skills and network. It’s just as important to learn what you DON’T want in a career as what you DO want. And there’s no expiration date for this - we can take the leap at any age or stage of our careers! It’s never too late to do something different. Here's how to do it right ?? 1???Secure the Offer:?Make sure your new offer is signed with a clear start date before giving notice. 2???Keep It Positive:?Express gratitude when resigning: "I’ve really enjoyed my time here, but I’ve decided to move on to a new opportunity that feels like the right next step for me." 3???Formalize It:?Submit a resignation letter to HR to clarify your last day. 4???Offer Support:?Help with the transition by training your replacement or documenting key tasks. ? How you leave a job is as important as how you start. Handle it professionally, and you’ll maintain strong connections. If you're unemployed right now? It’s hard NOT to have this mindset: "If I’m not job searching all day every day, I’m...” ...Failing ...Letting people down ...Falling behind But burnout and depression are real, and they tend to sneak up on you. You can still be effective in your job search without spending 8+ hours / day. Here’s a 2 step plan: 1. Focus On High ROI Activities Applying to 10+ jobs online, refreshing your email, browsing job boards 5x a day... Those are low ROI. Building relationships, engaging on LinkedIn, and honing your skills? Those are high ROI. 2. Make A Schedule And Stick To It Break out your day into half hour segments. Spend ~6 hours on high ROI activities: ? 9-9:30am is application time ? 9:30-10:30am is company research ? 10:30-11:30 is sending cold emails ? 12-1pm is engaging on LinkedIn ? Etc Outside of that? Take time for YOU. Read that book you’ve been eyeing. Take that course you’ve been putting off. Try that new hobby. Hang out with your kids and fam! You WILL get another job, I promise.
