Are you a job seeker who has had the concern: “Recruiters just don’t get our technical needs”? I am here to make a stand for recruiters and help jobseekers know the difference between them and career coaches. Here's the truth: while generalist recruiters might miss the nitty-gritty, the best ones work closely with hiring managers to truly understand the role. They’re like a vibe check for your career—they may not be experts in C++ or JavaScript, but they know how to spot top talent when they see it. So instead of pulling up concerns and complaints about recruiters go with the flow, use the river’s power as your own. Key Takeaways - ? Dedicated Recruiters Make a Difference - ?They invest their time and energy into understanding the technical nuances of the role and they become the critical line of defense for hiring managers — don’t discredit or disparage them it’s only hurting to do so. ? Strong Relationships Matter - ?Building a good relationship with your recruiter is essential. They’re here to help you shine by matching your skills to the right role, not to hold you back. ? Hiring managers are busy on projects - ?The recruiter is there because the hiring manager is busy making progress on projects plus, they could be short-staffed. Recruiters are often working with hiring managers to bridge that gap. Respect your recruiter and leverage their expertise to get your foot in the door. Remember, in today's competitive market, your recruiter can be your secret weapon. Trust the process, build that connection, and watch your opportunities multiply. ?? All I can do is send my resume and wait... This is how most job seekers feel. They hire a resume writer, or they do it themselves and spend many hours, updating it, changing it for every single application. They believe that resume writing is the end all be all and there is nothing else that can be done. As a resume writer for many years, I felt the same way, I would pour my heart and soul into the resumes I wrote for my clients, thinking that the resume will by-it-self do all the heavy lifting, and all they had to do was apply and boom they would have a position. When they didn't get interviews with the resume they worked so hard on, guess what people said... "It's the ATS's fault and it's A.I.'s fault that I am not getting interviews" THESE ARE ALL THE WRONG BELIEFS What I realized over time is that there is a much better way and my clients needed a change of mindset. Most were coming from the mindset of... I don't want to bother them, OR No one will help me, they are too busy doing their own thing, OR I am not important to them... Again, they had the wrong belief. The correct belief is Self-advocacy, determination, and grit. Self-advocacy - Speaking up, and telling your story of success (This is what I do during my resume-building coaching calls with clients) Determination - Sending out messages in every channel possible, taking an omni-channel approach, which means cold calls, emails, and LinkedIn messages. (This is what I do with my clients in the networking accelerator) Grit - Getting out there going to networking events and building your personal brand. (Providing you with accountability and encouragement to fight forward even after rejection letters) This is how you market yourself, it's more than a resume, you are more than your resume. To your success, Coach Dave
