Championing Colorado's World-Class Federal Research Lab Ecosystem
关于我们
CO-LABS is a non-profit consortium of federal research laboratories & institutions, universities, colleges, businesses and economic development organizations that provide financial and in-kind support for programs that promote the retention and expansion of Colorado's scientific resources. From agriculture to aerospace, geology to GPS, infectious disease to quantum physics, even wildlife biology to ice cores (and more!) the range of crucial, world-class research in our state is astounding. Our members recognize the importance of science as a fundamental source of humanity's progress, as a limitless resource to provide insight and answers, and as a source of wonder that can awe and cause joy. Keeping our scientific research labs and institutes funded is a matter of pragmatism and national security as much as it is a matter of pride and inspiration. Did You Know: Federally-Funded research labs in Colorado contribute $2.6 billion/year to the state's economy and provide 17,000 direct and indirect jobs. Source: CO-LABS 2016 Economic Impact Study Through events, economic analyses, strategic communications and networking activities we work to: • PROMOTE Colorado as a global leader in research and technology • EDUCATE the public about the labs’ impact and importance of sustained funding for research • CONNECT the labs, universities and businesses to facilitate partnerships and technology transfer To learn more, visit www.CO-LABS.org.

CO-LABS is collecting information about the threatened or actual budget cuts, staff layoffs, and confusing or contradictory directives affecting federally funded research labs in Colorado. We are working to provide insight on the negative impacts of these swirling policy issues to our federal elected officials to help mitigate and halt the destruction of our national research ecosystem - please provide your comments, you can remain anonymous or provide your contact info: #science #Colorado #scienceisnationalsecurity https://lnkd.in/gDDxFTgA

#NOAA’s GOES-19 Now Operational as GOES East, Providing Critical New Data to Forecasters - In its new role, GOES-19 will serve as NOAA: National Oceanic & Atmospheric Administration's primary geostationary #satellite for much of the Western Hemisphere. It will track #hurricanes and tropical #storms in the Atlantic #ocean basin, as well as monitor severe weather, atmospheric rivers, #wildfires, volcanic #eruptions and other environmental events affecting the contiguous U.S. It is also equipped with space weather instruments to monitor the sun, including NOAA’s first compact #coronagraph instrument (CCOR-1). CCOR-1 will be the primary source for critical information about impending geomagnetic storm conditions, allowing NOAA’s Space Weather Prediction Center (#SWPC) to issue warnings one to three days in advance. Near real-time operational GOES-19 satellite imagery can now be viewed at this NESDIS Center for Satellite Applications and Research (STAR) site: https://www.goes.noaa.gov/ Read more details and see videos>>> https://lnkd.in/eQzZvyRY #scienceisnationalsecurity

I often get asked to make seemingly impossible maps. Recently I was asked to map existing data centers across the US. “Also, it needs to show fiber optic lines. Oh and transmission lines. Probably water resource availability too. Oh and major urban areas. Yeah and it needs to fit on a single slide.” It all sounds good until you start piling on all the data and make the map small enough to be legible on a 6 or 8 inch wide graphic. But years of being presented with the challenge made me pretty decent at pulling it off—at least most of the time! Also I want to thank Avenza Systems Inc. for implementing an awesome new point scaling tool on my recommendation. They listened thoroughly to my proposal for the new tool and by golly they sure delivered! The new tool for MAPublisher works like a dream, and I used it for the first time to scale the data centers on this map. #cartography #maps #datamapping #datacenters #energy #energymapping #transmission #transmissiongrid #electricgrid #mapublisher

Over the past two weeks, I had the opportunity to attend two important events shaping the direction of innovation in Colorado and beyond: Colorado Cleantech's Climate Week Conference and the Council on Competitiveness's event Competitiveness Conversation Across America: The Mountain West. I'm still digesting all the great content that was shared, but wanted to share some of the insights with my network. It was great to run into my fellow Impact Denver Alumni, Michael Landes, who gave a fantastic overview of Colorado Office of Economic Development and International Trade's understanding of the landscape and areas for opportunity across Colorado's various tech hubs (hint: the answer is geothermal energy). At the Cleantech Conference, we saw just how much momentum is building—from autonomous agricultural robotics and carbon removal to geothermal energy and aluminum-based fuels. These founders are solving real problems with real urgency. But scaling impact in this sector means navigating not just the science, but the systems: permitting, compliance markets, storytelling, and public understanding. At the Competitiveness Conversation, the conversations zoomed out to a regional scale —highlighting the importance of collaboration across the I-25 Innovation Corridor, the role of workforce development, and the accelerating convergence of quantum, AI, and advanced manufacturing. One theme rang out across both events: federal investments matter. When funding supports university research, national labs, and regional tech hubs, it creates ripple effects across our economy. That’s why the work of organizations like CO-LABS, Inc., Elevate Quantum, NSF ENGINES: Colorado-Wyoming Engine is so critical. CO-LABS, Inc. sessions at the Competitiveness Conversation reinforced what many of us already know — federal laboratories are not just research institutions, they are economic engines. As someone who works with founders building transformative technologies, I left both events reminded that while innovation often begins with science, it scales with strategy, support, and storytelling. #Cleantech #InnovationEcosystem #QuantumTech #FederalLabs #MarketingStrategy #COLABS #TechForImpact #SwordAndSpark #I25Corridor #StartupGrowth #DOEInnovation #ColoradoStartups
