Not sure if this is because I am involved in space and facility planning, causing me to think a lot about how people interact with the built environment, but I always find it mildly bemusing to see people keep their umbrella up while they walk under scaffolding. No judgement intended...I can understand that the transaction cost of lowering and raising the umbrella might be too high! #planning #facilities #weather

Does your institution have a plan for adopting, scaling, and sustaining virtual and augmented reality in its teaching and learning? Don't: ? Let yourself get frozen by indecision or ?? Take initial steps without the strategy and planning you need to avoid inefficiency, disappointment, and the infamous ed tech trash heap. Dan Munnerley and I enjoyed presenting about this topic at last week's Tradeline, Inc. Science and Engineering Facilities conference -- Dan for ASU Next Lab and me for Co|Here Campus and Workplace. Get in touch if you want to get started thinking through the right approach for your organization on these matters. Thanks to the Tradeline crew for their great work as usual: Lisa Wesel, Kelly Williams, Kimberly Castro, Manny, and whoever that guy was they let emcee the main stage. #planning #teaching #VR #AR

Whatever your take on them, these findings are a reminder that predicting the future -- even the near future -- is quite difficult. Prognostication and planning have their place but I think it's essential that they focus on creating shared understandings, specific outcomes and measures, and a process of continual assessment and conversation. They should be guides as much as guesses. #WFH #RTO #planning

What a great visit today to ASU Next Lab, the Dreamscape Learn studio, and the rest of Arizona State University's Creativity Commons. Got the grand tour and fascinating info on past, present, and future of what they're developing there from Dan Munnerley. Dan and I also put the finishing touches on our presentation for the Tradeline, Inc. Science and Engineering Facilities conference: "Disruptive Effects of Virtual- and Augmented-Reality Pedagogy on Capital Plans." Does your university have a plan? Looking forward to our plenary session tomorrow. Samantha Adams Becker--I'll send a separate copy of this photo with you photoshopped in. #planning #VR #teaching Co|Here Campus and Workplace

Saw this post about job searching today. Would also throw in the *college* application process and ask these questions: ? What are the total hours spent by individuals applying to organizations to try to sell their candidacy - much of it ultimately unsuccessful? Surely all that time could be spent on actual productive tasks to advance society. ?? How much stress and heartache are needlessly created? ??♀? Isn't there a more efficient -- and equally or more effective -- way to match people and orgs? ? How effective is the matching process anyway? Maybe it's better than random assignment but relative to alternatives. Specifically...insofar as there is variation in how well people can sell themselves, whether it's innate skill, ability to pay for help (whether it's a college coun$elor, resume coach, or what have you), doesn't that create undesirable artifacts in the process? #highered #workforce #applying

$3.8m ARR. $0 raised. I have no idea what I'm doing.

We've hired 113 people in the past 4 years. And I've read 0 cover letters. Reviewed 0 CVs. And never hosted an interview longer than 30 minutes. Let's end: - CV's - Cover letters - Unnecessarily long interviews Treat future employees like you would treat future customers: - Thank people for their time - Streamline the process - Respond fast It's stressful enough to be a job seeker today. Let's not make it harder. Agree?

Disability Employment is not just about hiring. What really matters is RETENTION and WORKPLACE CULTURE. Government Executive shares some startling statistics. The EEOC reported in 2018 people with disabilities were 27% more likely to leave federal employment than their non-disabled colleagues. Similarly, the US Government Accountability Office reported in 2020 of the 223,000 people with disabilities hired between 2011-2017 nearly 40% stayed less than one year. There are a few things every organization needs to improve retention. ? An accommodation policy and process that is simple, well defined and gets employees what they need within two weeks. ? Create a culture of inclusion. There should be visible signs of inclusion like using captions during meetings, asking about inclusion preferences frequently and often, a published list of accessible restaurants and hotels near your offices. ? Listen. Really listen to the employee experiences of what it's like to be disabled at your company.
