The Colorado Green Business Network (CGBN) is a voluntary program that encourages, supports, and rewards organizations that make the move toward the goal of true, operational sustainability. Our goal is to support organizations throughout the state at any level of implementation in increasing the efficiency and sustainability of their operation through assessing opportunities for growth, recognizing success, and providing connections to like-minded businesses throughout the state. We do this through a two pronged approach by: 1. Providing free, off-site coaching and on-site assistance to any organization that requests it. 2. Recognizing and awarding organizations for exemplary practices that lead to resource reduction. To learn more about our program, please check out our website!

Their work over the past year on the Tropical Discovery building has a huge impact on their overall energy use, and it's so inspirational to see. We’re excited to share that we were named runner-up for the 24-Karat Gold Award by the Colorado Green Business Network! This award recognizes outstanding sustainability efforts among over 800 business, and we're honored that our efforts were highlighted alongside other top organizations like Treehouse Learning and Denver Water. In 2023, our teams proposed an ambitious goal to reduce Tropical Discovery's energy consumption over the next 12 months. Thanks to our Maintenance, Life Support System, Tropical Discovery, and Environmental teams those goals were exceeded in remarkable ways! In the past year, we’ve achieved a 30% reduction in Tropical Discovery’s energy use, with a 63% drop in electricity and 15% decrease in natural gas. These changes have saved $170,000 annually and reduced our carbon footprint by 656 metric tons of CO2—the equivalent of taking 156 cars off the road! This achievement is about more than energy savings; it’s about walking the walk when it comes to conservation. We’re not done yet, and with ongoing improvements, we’ll continue leading the charge toward a more sustainable future. Tropical Discovery is slated to reopen later this month, and we can't wait to welcome guests back to this revitalized space! ??

Lisa Evans is the Sustainability Specialist for the City of Lafayette, where she is dedicated to supporting local businesses in their sustainability journeys as the regional partner for the Colorado Green Business Network. Lisa is passionate about building connections and facilitating opportunities for businesses to thrive while contributing to a more sustainable future for Lafayette. Logan Johnson is the Sustainability Specialist with the City of Louisville. As the Colorado Green Business Network champion in Louisville, his primary goal is to foster opportunities for local businesses to find solutions to be more sustainable. He aims to provide a connection between businesses throughout the city and the greater CGBN network to facilitate learning and improvements.
