With Hurricane Milton getting closer, T-Mobile’s customers might not be completely disconnected if their cell service goes down. This past weekend, T-Mobile got emergency approval to use Starlink satellites to send emergency alerts to T-Mobile subscribers whose service might be down from Hurricane Helene. The emergency alert service shows how a partnership originally aimed at filling coverage dead zones is quickly proving valuable for connecting people during national emergencies. T-Mobile tells CNET’s Eli Blumenthal that it is planning to continue with emergency alerts for Hurricane Milton, and may potentially also enable satellite texting.
