Tropical Weather Update for TD19/ TS Sara Thu Nov 14 - 800AM CDT Big Pic: Tropical Depression 19 (TD19) is forecast to become Tropical Storm Sara and bring torrential rain and mudslides to Honduras. Residents in the eastern Gulf of Mexico (Florida) should continue to monitor this storm. In Detail: 1. TD19 is forecast to strengthen into Tropical Storm Sara today, as it tracks westward towards Honduras. 2. Conditions are favorable for strengthening, and the system is forecast to be a strong tropical storm, with sustained winds of 65 mph, at landfall. 3. Upper atmosphere steering currents should weaken, enabling the storm to drift near the Honduras coastline. This will produce a prolonged timeframe of heavy rainfall that could exceed 20 inches, leading to life-threatening flooding and mudslides. 4. The atmospheric conditions remain favorable for strengthening if this storm is centered offshore and can feed off warm water for energy. Land interaction will be the main deterrent for strengthening and long-term longevity with this system. The official NHC forecast eventually weakens the storm over Central America and the Yucatán Peninsula, but the storm could be stronger and stay together long enough to get into the eastern Gulf of Mexico if its track stays offshore near Honduras. 5. Residents in the eastern Gulf of Mexico, especially Florida, should continue to monitor this storm. If it survives Central America / The Yucatán, it could track towards the eastern Gulf next week.
