    If you’re a law firm looking to hire a CMO or other senior team members this year, get ready to wait. A CMO search can take as little as three months or up to a year when you take all of these factors into account: ? Vetting timeframes ? Scheduling multiple office visits ? Waiting for them to give up to 30 days’ notice to their former employer And, if your firm needs their new CMO to have a specific skill set, like business development experience in specific practices or sectors, just add more time.     Since the pandemic, law firm marketing recruiting has been on a rollercoaster ride with even more activity and movement than usual. Law firms have increasingly turned to executive recruiters to hire the marketing talent they need in order to differentiate themselves from the competition. CMO2Go founder Erika Steinberg recently spoke with three leaders in the executive recruiting field to hear their insights and predictions for 2025, and here’s what they had to say as we start this year. Eva Wisnik of Wisnik Career Enterprises noted that about a third of law firm marketers who responded to her 2024 survey changed jobs twice in the last two years. But now, recruiters are hoping that 2025 will be a robust hiring year as long as the economy doesn't go south. And about 90% of her survey respondents reported that they expect to still be in legal marketing two years from now, which is good news for firms worried that talent will be scarce. Jason Caramanico, Senior Managing Director of Celeritas Recruiting, wants the Fed to lower interest rates so the economy will get a boost, which may lead to increased M&A activity. “The countercyclical practices, such as litigation and bankruptcy, did well in 2024, but everyone seems to be looking for the transactional side to pick up so firms can relax a bit more.” Hadleigh Henderson Katz, Director of Executive Search at Calibrate, predicts that the trend of professional services candidates moving into legal services will continue. She also predicts more movement at the C-level, “influenced by broader industry trends, firm strategy and market shifts. Firms may be undergoing digital transformations or broader strategic shifts that require new leadership with different skills. As the legal sector continues to become more competitive, there is a greater need for senior leaders who can drive marketing initiatives that not only attract clients and drive revenue but elevate the firm’s brand and visibility.” ??     In 2024, we intentionally decided to share our law firm marketing knowledge as widely as possible so we could be of service to law firms before they decided to work with us. And as a result of this strategy, we grew! We expanded geographically, adding law firm clients in Florida, Louisiana, Ohio and Oregon to our roster due to the “marketing snowball effect.” Referral partners sent us potential clients, who read our content to ensure we understood their problems and needs and made the choice to work with us. As we expanded geographically, we added Elizabeth Kennedy to our team of veteran legal marketers. Elizabeth is an RFP whisperer who’s been driving business development initiatives and revenue growth in Am Law 50 firms for over three decades, and we’re very fortunate to have her as part of our team. Our founder Erika Steinberg published articles in New York Law Journal and ABA Law Practice Today and was quoted in additional pieces in The American Lawyer. Subjects included how midsize law firms can benefit from big law marketing expertise by working with fractional executives, the state of women’s business development initiatives in law firms, what it takes to move into legal marketing from another sector, and law firms’ cautious but growing relationship with TikTok. We started a blog and regularly contributed towards it, adding a total of 36 blog posts over the course of the year. Erika guested on some new podcasts, creating video content about the marketing snowball effect, the COPE (Create Once, Publish Everywhere) method of content creation, what it takes to handle the exacting needs of law firm partners, and how lawyers are giving back to their communities. 2024 was also a time of adjustment. We went on an extensive client listening tour to learn more about how our ideal clients and prospects hire fractional marketing support, and through those conversations gained a tremendous amount of value and insight about what we should increase our focus on in the future. As a result of that work, we’ll be upgrading our messaging and branding in 2025 to better represent the people we wish to serve. We want to thank Tracy Freedenberg, Cortney Nathanson, MBA, Elizabeth Kennedy, Alejandra Ramirez Wells and Erin Alli for contributing towards CMO2Go’s expansion and continued success.     How is it this time of year again? Did 2024 go by as quickly for you as it did for us? It’s been another year of learning and growing over here. We worked with law firms in the New York area, as usual, and also firms in Oregon, Louisiana, Ohio and Florida. We are grateful for your trust in us. Part of the CMO2Go mission is to give back, as many of you know. We have worked with some of the same organizations as in years past, and also added a new one. We have made contributions to each of them in your honor, both now and throughout the year. ? Feeding Westchester - Erika loves that this organization is right in her backyard. They do so much to reduce food insecurity and hunger.? ?St. Jude Children's Research Hospital - There is no end to the good St. Jude does for kids and their families; what a wonderful organization. ?Music Will - Too many arts programs have been cut or reduced, making their work even more valuable. Music Will brings some of that back to the classroom.? ?American Friends of NATAL - NATAL is the go-to organization for trauma treatment in Israel. They provide assistance to individuals and training to professionals, all needed even more since October 7th. ?Veteran Advocacy Project (VAP) Advocacy Project - VAP’s? mission is to provide free legal services to low-income veterans and their families, with a focus on those living with post-traumatic stress, brain injury and substance dependency. They also do a ton of work to restore honor (and life saving benefits) to veterans who were unjustly discharged. Wishing you a wonderful holiday season and year to come!
