关于我们
The Charlotte Mecklenburg Library Foundation exists to help the Charlotte Mecklenburg Library improve lives and build a stronger community. Created as a non-profit 501(c)(3) in September 2012 in partnership with Foundation For The Carolinas, the Foundation supports the Library’s programs and services through advocacy, fundraising and building relationships with others who share a passion for the Library’s work. The Library Foundation supports library services, expands the Library’s collection of print and digital books and materials, enhances programming for all ages, invests in innovative initiatives, and strives to grow its endowment for future generations. More members of our community - individuals, corporations and foundations alike - are investing in our libraries and the crucial services they provide to our community. In six years, the Library Foundation has raised $9 million for the Library.

On Mary Louise Phillips’ retirement from Charlotte Mecklenburg Library, then Director Hoyt Galvin noted that hiring her was his best day’s work ever in his 30 years at the Library. She became head librarian of the North Carolina Room in 1960 and expanded it from a small collection of local history and genealogy to one that covered five southern states. Learn more about this extraordinary librarian's legacy of historical preservation that will live on with new technology for the Carolina Room. https://lnkd.in/ecgqZYaN

Our Libraries serve as a place of refuge for all people -— especially in times of crisis. As Western North Carolina struggles with the devastation caused by Hurricane Helene, many evacuees are coming to our area and visiting our Library locations. The Library is issuing guest passes for internet use regardless of where a customer is from and will not require proof of temporary Mecklenburg County address for individuals impacted by the hurricane. Our branches are safe and welcoming places for evacuees and will continue to offer services to help during this time of extreme hardship.

We want to send a heartfelt thanks to the entire Knight Foundation's Board of Trustees for including Charlotte Mecklenburg Library and Foundation in their meetings and events this past weekend. CEO and Chief Library Marcellus Turner and Executive Director Jenni Gaisbauer, CFRE were so honored to be included. Thank you for your incredible support for our community!
This past Sunday, I was honored to host Knight Foundation’s Board of Trustees, our President & CEO Maribel Perez Wadsworth and my colleagues from across the organization. Each year Knight’s trustees visit one of our 26 Knight Communities. It’s an opportunity to reconnect and learn about our work on the local level. During the trip, trustees met with Mayor Vi Lyles and former Secretary of Transportation Anthony Foxx, toured Historic West End and learned about the future direction of Charlotte Mecklenburg Library. We also hosted a dinner and celebration for Charlotteans at The Mint Museum. At the dinner, Knight Foundation announced $17M in grants to bolster Charlotte’s development in the #HistoricWestEnd, the arts and local journalism. Read more here: https://lnkd.in/eGXprXyW The $9.75M in new investments for Historic West End supports building a new resident owned grocery store, flexible capital for small business expansion and attraction and capacity building support for Historic West End Partners and LISC Charlotte.
