Yesterday morning marked a milestone as we broke ground on the new Fort Hall Fire Station! We’re excited to start work on this vital project, which will enhance emergency services to the Fort Hall community. CM Company’s Pocatello office is currently managing a design-build remodel for the Lava Hot Springs Foundation of their hottest pool. These pools were historically used by the local Bannock and Shoshone Native Americans as mud baths, and various improvements have been made since that time, which have all been built on top of the unstable soils (mud) and slowly settled into the mud. ? The first step of this process is for us to gain some understanding of the underlying soil conditions and surrounding geology to determine the bearing capacity of the soils, and what engineered solutions can be used to combat the differential settling of the pool decks and surrounding structures. ? Recently, we engaged a boring company to drill various test holes near the basalt cliffs that surround the pools to determine if bedrock could be reached less than 30’ below the pool surfaces and to collect soil and rock samples. The cliffs surrounding the pool provide very limited access to the upper pools, so one of the drilling rigs had to be craned off of HWY 30 60 feet above the pool!
