It has been said that we cannot change the amount of precipitation that we receive, but science is proving that idea wrong. Evapotranspiration for vegetation plays a critical role in the small water cycle. The impact of the land management on the small water cycle is being overlooked in our narrow focus on reducing carbon. We need to take a more holistic approach to managing our landscape.
关于我们
Healing Hooves provides natural vegetation management services using hungry goats to clear weeds, brush, blackberries, etc. with professional targeted grazing techniques. Craig Madsen has been actively working as a “goat renter guy” since 2002, taking our herd of hungry ruminants across the state of Washington and occasionally over the borders into Idaho and Oregon. When you rent our goats, you get Craig’s expertise in range management and his handiness with a machete as part of the bargain. Craig can also coach you on managing your own small acreage with your own small herd. The keys are: 1. Knowing what you want the land to look like. Open pasture? Shaded forest fire break? Planted back to native vegetation? Just keep those darn blackberries from taking over the hillside? 2. Planning your grazing to put the right animals at the right density at the right time for the right length of time on each piece of land in order to create tour desired future landscape. Craig is trained as an educator in Allan Savory's Holistic Management system, and is available for workshops and presentations.

Interested in learning more about regenerative ag? Craig Madsen is featured in this edition of Forthright on Substack. An interesting perspective on why we need to boarden our look at how we look the carbon and water cycle.
We should not be focusing on one leg of the stool, carbon. We need to be taking a more Holistic approach and look at ecosystem processes, especially the a water cycle. Peter Donavan has the good perspective. https://lnkd.in/guuS5cGE

Industrial wind turbines are not compatible with agriculture. That's a myth proponents with power tell themselves to make it all right to force the negative consequences onto less powerful communities.
Given wind turbines aren't appropriate everywhere there is wind or we wouldn't need a state permitting council, what criteria should we apply to seeking appropriate sites and deciding others aren't worth pursuing? For instance, why rule out Lake Washington? How about Puget Sound? Both have lots of wind and are near major points of demand so less transmission line loss. Or maybe around Olympia, the location was chosen because it was a good port for wind driven vessels. Why aren't we installing wind turbines on the west side of the state of Washington? Why force them into rural communities and pretend they're "farms?" #windenergy #windfarms #agriculture #naturelovers #darkskies #bats #raptors #ecosystems #ecosystemservices #soilhealth #industrialenergy #decarbonization #tradeoffs
Stop calling them wind "farms" - they're industrial wind facilities

It was good to connect in Coeur d'Alene this week with our former neighbor, Denver Black, now working with Soilcraft in Zambia. Excellent speakers and much to think about in the ongoing conversation about regenerative agriculture as a mindset, not a checklist. #regenerativeagriculture #biology #soil #soilhealth #agriculture #farming #ranching #grazing #ecosystems #ecosystemservices #sustinability #triplebottomline https://lnkd.in/gqDrsU-s

Interesting look at climate policies. Are we letting fear drive our decisions? Are providing the right incentives? Can we have a good discussion about the issue without calling each other names? There is more to the discussion than carbon. https://lnkd.in/gG46VPyr
