We are thrilled to welcome two talented designers, Sammy Barkholz and Eva Jungermann, to the Cloud Gehshan Design team! Sammy Barkholz is a passionate and creative graphic designer specializing in visual communication, branding, and digital design. With a keen eye for detail, Sammy crafts visually compelling solutions that create a strong connection with end users from concept to completion. She finds projects with high user engagement and beneficial societal impacts the most fulfilling. With an education in Architecture, Eva Jungermann brings technical and artistic insight into various CGD projects. She is from a family of designers, which might explain why she’s been drawn to art, visual conception, and creating things since childhood. Eva is passionate about the human quality and experience of spaces, making them easy to navigate, inviting, and accessible for everyone. Welcome aboard Sammy and Eva! https://lnkd.in/ewAXmKtc

CGD has recently completed a comprehensive wayfinding design and master plan for the Diplomatic Quarter (DQ) in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. The DQ is home to over 60 Embassies, five affluent residential districts, multiple international schools, retail, and a beautiful natural walking trail. The bilingual sign system design sources native stone material for much of the signage, along with fiber-reinforced concrete and durable porcelain enamel panels, enabling the system to withstand the intense sun, heat, and the occasional sand storm. Traditional patterns and angular forms mimic the DQ’s distinct historic Salmani architecture, while LED illumination allows the signs to be visible to their residents and visitors in the evening hours. https://lnkd.in/eMikEtQG

At CGD, we believe in giving back to those who make a difference every day. That’s why our team recently came together to assemble gift bags for the Ronald McDonald House Charities’ Kits for a Good Cause program. These thoughtfully curated kits are designed to benefit caregivers—unsung heroes who selflessly support their loved ones during challenging times. Filled with fun activities, essential items and small comforts, the gift bags are a gesture of gratitude and encouragement to brighten their day this holiday season. Happy Holidays and Cheers to the New Year! ?? --- Please note, in celebration of the holidays and the hard work of our staff over the past year, CGD’s offices will be closed on December 25th and will re-open on January 2nd.

CGD attended DesignPhiladelphia’s Designing Futures Annual Breakfast. Designing Futures is an initiative dedicated to empowering and inspiring young designers. Throughout a student’s journey from elementary school to applying for their first design job, the program exposes children to the fields of architecture, graphic design, industrial design, and textile design, arming them with critical thinking, creativity, communication, and a collaborative spirit—fundamental skills that are the bedrock of any design field. In addition, the program helps students spark their creativity, introduces them to potential career paths, and ensures that the pathway to a design career is welcoming to all, regardless of background. Dr. Andrew Phillips, a well-known and respected educator, award-winning architect, and CGD friend, was the first inaugural honoree of the Designing Futures program, a testament to the program’s credibility and its ability to attract high-caliber dedicated individuals. His current firm, APPHILLIPS, is dedicated to offering design education consulting services and workshops to institutional, professional, and non-profit organizations.??Andrew’s tireless commitment to marginalized communities is evident in his work, where he has helped generations of students develop their design agency as a vehicle for empowerment and positive change. Congratulations, Dr. Phillips! In addition, CGD Design Director Linzi Eggers Saban volunteered in the summer workshop program. Linzi worked with kids ages 7-17 from various Philadelphia recreation centers on an intro to graphic design sprint titled The Power of Words: Poster Design. Work from the Power of Words workshop was seen on display today alongside other great student work created through Design Philly’s K-12 programs. On this #givingtuesday, please join us in helping to keep creativity in the classroom:?https://lnkd.in/eBqnadYm

We are proud to announce the dedication of Amy Gutmann Hall, Penn Engineering's new home for AI and data science. The building's striking and innovative design creates a space to unite AI research and data science across the University of Pennsylvania's 12 schools, encompassing fields as diverse as engineering, law and medicine. A model of sustainability, the building is constructed primarily from mass timber, which has a lower carbon footprint than steel or concrete. At six stories tall and 116,000 square feet, Amy Gutmann Hall is the tallest new mass timber building in the Philadelphia area and one of the largest on the East Coast.? ? Housing spaces for both research and teaching, Amy Gutmann Hall will train the next generation of scholars to mine data for insights that can be leveraged for the betterment of humanity. The building's flexible learning environments will also enhance Penn Engineering’s local community outreach and engagement programs, with the goal of increasing access to computer science instruction and addressing inequities in STEM fields.
