All new chapters call for change.
?? And this is the importance of leaning into our style.
???This is the importance of image and wardrobes and rebrands.
???This is the importance of channeling our desired selves into our wardrobes; because when new chapters call us in life, they ask us to become.
They ask us to embody a new frequency; a new sense of self-confidence; a new level of responsibility…And so on.
I say this readily and often, (literally to anyone who will listen), but ELLE Magazine Fashion and Beauty Editor, Andrea Cheng, says it best in her very vulnerable and honest recount of the style transformation she underwent post-divorce after 11 years of marriage.
???“The intricate makings of personal style are akin to hand-stitching fine lacework. Fleeting and abstract, so much of piecing together an outfit is based on a?feeling.”
???“I want to make it absolutely clear: I wasn’t in an unhappy marriage, or a bad one for that matter. But in many ways I felt stuck and unseen."
???"I combed through my closet recently and tried on a dress I wore B.D. (Before Divorce). I was aghast at how shapeless it was, how much fabric there was, how blah and invisible I felt in it," she said.
These are just a few quotes documenting her journey—how she felt called to show more skin following the energetic liberation and freedom she breathed in and out after her divorce. Her story is relevant to us all; because regardless of the circumstances, there will be times when we have to reassess ourselves and ask, “Am I showing up like I really want to?”
We have to constantly reevaluate, because our clothing is a direct reflection of our inner states.
(They say, the best way to welcome a new manifestation is to clean out a closet, because the things we hold onto hold us back.)
So...
???Ask yourself if you are hiding.
???Ask yourself if you can show up differently.
???Ask yourself if your wardrobe creates a narrative you want to share.
This is the key to style.
Cheng said?it best, style is based on “feeling.” We must feel like the person we desire to be in order to fully embody them; to fully create from a place of confidence.
So ask yourself now—Is a new chapter calling?
And, if so…is your closet ready to answer?
