The way we clean our homes and workplaces is ready for an upgrade—and concentrates could be the key to reducing waste. Closed Loop Partners Center for the Circular Economy is exploring the launch of a “Concentrates Corner” experiment—an area of dedicated shelf space in retail to spotlight multiple brands, educate customers on the impact of concentrates and drive real change. From concentrated liquid refills to powder tablets for laundry detergent, multi-purpose cleaner and hand soap, concentrates can offer the same cleaning power with far less waste. Yet, despite their benefits, lack of customer awareness, limited visibility in stores due to their size and scattered product placement are holding back their widespread adoption. Why do concentrates matter? ? Less Waste: Smaller, refillable packaging means less plastic ? Lower Emissions: Shipping active ingredients, not water, drastically reduces weight and carbon footprints. ? Convenience: Easier to store, use, and transport—perfect for modern consumers. If you’re a brand, retailer or sustainability leader who is working on concentrates or has insights into accelerating their adoption, reach out to us at [email protected]

Contamination in compost can be greatly reduced if we implement upstream interventions such as labeling laws and sortation technology, and draw upon financial resources like Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) funding and federal grants. By taking these steps, we can reduce decontamination costs and ensure composters are supported in their critical work to create high-quality finished compost that restores our soils. The Composting Consortium, managed by Closed Loop Partners' Center for the Circular Economy, launched the Composter Innovator Program to convene composters around solutions to this industry challenge. [NEW REPORT] Demand for post-consumer recycled food-grade polypropylene (PP) is on the rise, but supply has been limited. To increase supply, we must find out: what exactly is in the PP recycling stream today, and how much of it is food-grade? Closed Loop Partners' Center for the Circular Economy embarked on an unprecedented study to fill this data gap. We conducted an extensive recyclable material characterization campaign, deploying Greyparrot's AI-powered vision systems at four U.S. materials recovery facilities to characterize 45M+ items. Today, we published the findings––revealing high quantities of food-grade PP at recycling facilities and identifying new opportunities to recover more of the material. Learn more about the 3 key findings in the report here: https://hubs.la/Q03dg5Ql0 #circulareconomy #polypropylene #recycling #innovation #artificialintelligence #NextGen

Lauren Rodriguez, Head of Corporate Partnerships at Circular Services, a Closed Loop Partners company, spoke to CUNY TV about waste management in New York City. With over 8 million residents generating millions of tons of waste each year, the opportunities and challenges are immense—with impacts on our neighborhoods, public health and the climate. Circular Services' Brooklyn materials recovery facility is the largest and most sophisticated recycling plant in North America, processing most of New York City’s curbside material at roughly 20,000 tons per month, helping keep valuable materials in circulation. Alongside Clare Miflin, Founder and Executive Director of the Center for Zero Waste Design and Samantha MacBride, Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Marxe School of Public and International Affairs at Baruch College, Lauren discusses solutions to advance a circular economy and a cleaner, more sustainable future for New York City.
