Combating Antibiotic-Resistant Bacteria Biopharmaceutical Accelerator (CARB-X) and CHAI are partnering to tackle gonorrhea infections, including antimicrobial resistance. The partnership will evaluate the clinical needs and address market barriers for gonorrhea screening, preventive, and treatment interventions in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). “We are excited to embark on this initial body of work with CHAI, leveraging their experience in market assessment and thoughtful implementation of interventions for HIV and other STIs in LMICs over the past 20 years,” said CARB-X Chief of R&D Erin Duffy, PhD. “This collaboration will help us shape impactful strategies to address the growing public health threat posed by AMR, particularly in regions with the highest need," said Dr. David Ripin, CHAI Executive Vice President, Infectious Diseases, Chief Science Officer. CHAI congratulates MedAccess for its seven years in operation.?????? Over 539 million people?across 110 countries benefitting from MedAccess guarantees in?just seven years is an incredible feat! We are?honored to be part of the MedAccess origin story. Michael Anderson CB #AccessToMedicine #HealthEquity #EquitableAccess #HealthAccess
CEO @ MedAccess. | Working to ensure fast and equal access to medical products because fair access is at the heart of a healthier future. | Former civil servant, lawyer, academic.
Tomorrow marks seven years since MedAccess was launched. At the time it was a bit of an experiment. The idea was formulated by CHAI and DFID, and then incubated by British International Investment. MedAccess would be the world’s first financial institution dedicated solely to market-shaping. Could it succeed? Our aim was not to generate profit, but to generate impact at scale; to improve access to affordable medicines and other health products for patients while also helping businesses to achieve their objectives. But would it be possible to benefit patients and business at the same time? Would there be enough ‘deal flow’ and impact to justify our existence? The worst-case scenario was that we close after three years. The best case was that we could work with partners to achieve extraordinary results at scale. What happened? Today we publish the latest edition of our Impact Case Studies. The case studies pay tribute to the tremendous partnerships that have enabled MedAccess guarantees to benefit some 539 million people living in more than 110 countries. The case studies go behind the numbers to look at the public health and market challenges that arose in each situation, and how innovative finance enabled dedicated individuals to benefit patients more quickly. Working closely with business and public health professionals alike, we have crafted financial solutions that reduce costs and accelerate scientific innovation into use for underserved communities. None of this happened by accident. These results are due to all the outstanding people who have played a part in building MedAccess since 2017. There are a great many global health challenges to overcome but I am proud to work alongside MedAccess colleagues – past and present – to continue accelerating sustainable access to lifechanging medical products. With thanks to Clinton Health Access Initiative, Inc., British International Investment, Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office and all our partners past and present. ?? https://lnkd.in/dEeQt8yp

??At least 125 physicians trained in identifying pediatric cancer early in Hainan province, China, with CHAI support Since 2022, CHAI, with funding support from UBS Optimus Foundation, has been supporting the Hainan Provincial Health Commission in China to strengthen its overall pediatric cancer diagnosis and patient management system. Although China has made remarkable progress toward cancer care and treatment in the last two decades, challenges remain in pediatric cancer screening, diagnosis, and treatment. Around 50,000 new pediatric cancer cases are diagnosed each year, with many cases detected at advanced stages, imposing a significant burden on families and the healthcare system. Limited awareness, delayed symptom detection, and lack of standardized diagnostic pathways further exacerbate the problem. In August, pediatric cancer experts from Hainan Children’s Hospital and Shanghai Fudan University Affiliated Children’s Hospital trained 125 physicians from 46 hospitals across the Hainan Province in identifying cancer early and using the newly launched Pediatric Cancer Registry platform that CHAI co-developed. The registry is the first provincial-level tool in China designed to improve case tracking, early diagnosis, and patient management across all hospitals offering pediatric care in the province. The physicians continue to receive support through in-person and online training sessions to ensure long-term impact. This training is part of a broader government-led initiative to empower primary care providers, with future sessions focusing on specialized training and challenging case studies. #PediatricCancer #HealthForAll #CancerCare #PrimaryHealthcare

Today, our team came together with the Ministry of Health, Kampot Province leadership, and people living with NCDs to celebrate World Diabetes Day. In 2024, we have much to celebrate—diabetes services are now available at the Primary Health Care level in five provinces across Cambodia! ???? But there’s still more to be done. Many individuals remain undiagnosed, and countless others need ongoing support to stay on track with their treatment plans. Each of us has a role to play. By mobilizing communities, and improving service integration, the EXPAND project is making a real impact on the lives of those living with NCDs in Kampot. Let’s think holistically, act collaboratively, and ensure that no one faces diabetes alone. Together, we can create a healthier future for all! #WorldDiabetesDay #NCDs #KampotPHD #IntegratedCare #HealthForAll #DiabetesAwareness

?? Exciting news! CHAI has secured a three-year, US$8 million grant from Open Philanthropy to tackle sickle cell disease in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs). This is the first-ever grant to focus on global market-shaping efforts for sickle cell disease. Sickle cell disease affects millions worldwide, with the highest burden in LMICs, yet access to effective diagnosis and care remains limited. This funding will support CHAI’s efforts to expand newborn screening programs, strengthen health systems, and ensure access to life-saving treatments. ??Learn more about this transformative initiative: https://ow.ly/a1eR50U9M3s #SickleCellAwareness #SickleCellDisease #HealthForAll
