The company is engaging its employees to truly understand the realities that lung cancer patients face daily. It's powerful. Called "A Life in a Day," this experience offers a powerful glimpse into the daily challenges faced by those living with this devastating disease. Anna-Maria Mikic, a Human Resources professional at Boehringer Ingelheim, participated in this immersive program and shared her profound insights. Over a 24-hour period, Anna-Maria engaged in activities that simulated the physical and emotional toll of lung cancer. "The limitations became clear to me," she said. "Things like climbing stairs were suddenly a real problem because you couldn’t breathe anymore." This experience not only deepened her understanding but also shifted her perspective on life, making her realize the insignificance of daily stresses and problems. I'm screening for another clinical trial, and got this text from the fine folks at CNS Healthcare. Let's unpack: Messages like this are little things that can compound to make a huge difference for patients. When you hear some of us talking about a "consumer grade experience" (h/t Joseph K. and Craig Lipset among others) it doesn't always mean slick tech. This is a great example. The GOOD: - Clear instructions, friendly tone - Orients the patient and provides an avenue for communication - Sets up to avoid missed comms in the future I don't think there's anything 'bad' here (although I might edit the copy to not include "please" three times). Is there a 'next level' version of this that could potentially drive even better results? I don't know, of course, but here are some things I'd consider testing if I was CNS: Room to EXPERIMENT: - Link to 'first time visitors' page with pictures of the parking garage, elevator, office door (I've been there before but it's minorly confusing and some people want all the reassurance they can get) - I'm always a fan of confirming appointments (reply 'ok') but I wonder if an open-ended question would be more helpful: "Do you have any questions we could answer?" Texts like this are an easy way to provide patients with some additional peace of mind while increasing the likelihood of a good outcome for the site. **UPDATE** Dan Sfera pointed out the text block is really long and could be confused with spam - I floated an edited-down version that he approves of in the comments below.
