An interdisciplinary effort to understand impacts of climate extremes
关于我们
The research center climes, or the Swedish Center for Impacts of Climate Extremes, is dedicated to building an interdisciplinary research field that focuses on the impacts of climate extremes under the changing global environment. The center aims to influence the Swedish research landscape in this field by integrating diverse disciplines including physical, medical, social, and engineering sciences, which are pivotal for understanding the genesis of climate extremes’ impacts and are seldom combined synergistically. The center is a collaboration between Uppsala University, Lund University and RISE Research Institutes of Sweden. The center is funded by The Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsr?det).

??Network!?? Climate Change AI Nordics A new network for researchers working in AI technologies and climate change. Our Olof Mogren, PhD is one of the founders. ??Follow them on LinkedIn: Climate Change AI Nordics ??Become a member using this link: https://lnkd.in/dPvzSdp9
We have now launched Climate Change AI Nordics: a network of researchers in the Nordics dedicated to developing and utilizing AI technologies to address the urgent global challenge of climate change! Our researchers focus on creating and promoting AI solutions that support both climate change mitigation, reducing the severity of climate change, and adaptation, adjusting to the effects of climate change. We are already in a climate emergency which is causing biodiversity loss, extreme weather events, and human suffering, and this necessitates a multifaceted approach involving both policy change, limitations on activities contributing to climate change, and bolstering societal resilience against climate-related events. https://ccainordics.com

COP29 has just started in Baku, Azerbaijan. Emily Boyd is interviewed about her expectations on this year's climate conference - especially in light of last year's landmark decision to establish a loss and damage fund. She highlights that there is still much that needs to be decided. – How should loss and damage be defined? And how do you measure it? We are in a phase where a lot of technical things have to be solved and tools need to be developed, in connection with money coming on the table. And how much money will it be? We don't know that either. The countries that promised resources are themselves cutting their budgets right now, she says. –Last year, everyone was euphoric because the promises about resources became something concrete. But now when you look at how little there is in relation to the climate impacts we see, policy makers need to take loss and damage more seriously, and climate adaptation as well. She mentions hurricanes Helen and Milton, and storm Babette in Sweden, as clear examples of the connection between climate change and losses. - Babette in October last year caused great damage and cost a great deal to Scanian municipalities. But I am still cautiously optimistic, on a local level. In Sweden, progress is now being made with climate adaptation and many municipalities are working very hard on this. Now we must also ensure that we support the Global South with their climate adaptation. climes - Swedish centre for impacts of climate extremes Read the article in Swedish at lu.se https://lnkd.in/du2wZgsk.
