The Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council (G/FLRPC) is pleased to announce the commencement of a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan for the nine-County Genesee-Finger Lakes Region, funded through a Climate Pollution Reduction Grant from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Building off the Priority Climate Action Plan, which was developed in early 2024 and focused on reducing greenhouse gas emissions in three sectors (Municipal Operations, Transportation, and Buildings), this Comprehensive Climate Action Plan will collaboratively define goals and strategies to reduce regional greenhouse gas emissions and climate pollution across all sectors. The Genesee-Finger Lakes Region is already experiencing impacts from climate change — such as more intense and frequent rain events, flooding, drought, and extreme heat — all of which pose a threat to public health, infrastructure, and the region’s economy. The development of a Comprehensive Climate Action Plan will help the Genesee-Finger Lakes region: ·?????Tackle damaging climate pollution while supporting the creation of good jobs and lowering energy costs for families; ·?????Accelerate work to address environmental injustice and empowering community-driven solutions in neighborhoods disproportionately impacted by the impacts of climate change and climate pollution; and ·?????Deliver cleaner air by reducing harmful air pollution in places where people live, work, play, and go to school. Public input is essential to the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan and will play a central role in developing the goals and prioritizing the strategies identified in the plan. Please take our survey to help us understand the community’s support for different types of climate action. To stay involved, sign up for project updates at engage.gflrpc.org/CPRG — you will be notified of upcoming public input opportunities, such as surveys and public meetings, and when a draft of the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan is ready for review! For questions about the Comprehensive Climate Action Plan, please contact Jenny Loewenstein, Sustainability Program Manager, Genesee/Finger Lakes Regional Planning Council, at [email protected].?
