Applications for the Climate Pledge Arena Community Fund close this week! ??? Last year, the Wing Luke Museum of the Asian Pacific American Experience was selected for a Climate Pledge Arena Community Fund Grant! The funding provided served the high school YouthCAN program. An exhibition, "Portraits of Places," opened in the museum's Frank Fuji Youth Gallery featuring student work based on places and people that they studied over the year in Seattle’s Chinatown International District. The average professional sports stadium can consume 10 megawatts of electricity in a single event. That’s enough electricity to power 10,000 homes for a month. Five years ago Seattle’s Climate Pledge Arena set its sights on making 100% of that electric power sourced from on- and off-site renewable energy. Their dehumidifiers, kitchens, and heat all run on electric power, they offer free local public transportation with every ticket, they collect rainwater from their roof for the Kraken’s hockey rink, and much more. ?? Applications for the Climate Pledge Arena Community Fund are now OPEN! The fund will support youth-focused programs and projects that use arts, music, and culture as strategies to drive racial equity and social justice. Grant applications will be accepted for 501-c-3 non-profit organizations in the Seattle area that are focused on serving marginalized youth or youth of color with authenticity and intentionality. To celebrate her first headlining tour, we commissioned local artist Takiyah Ward to paint a one-of-a-kind astronaut helmet for the queen of hip-hop. Takiyah is the talented Seattle artist and owner of The Re-Sole 206. The goal of The Re-Sole is to help add life to footwear and create opportunities for these items to appreciate in value over longer periods of time. However, this time, she took on a unique challenge: painting an astronaut helmet.
