This crisis sparked the creation of the Cloudburst Management Plan (CMP)—a bold strategy, integrating over 300 projects to protect the city from future extreme rainfall events, whose responsibility is shared between the municipality and HOFOR (the utility company). The CMP stands as a global example of integrating sustainable, cost-efficient infrastructure to address urban climate risks. ?? Meet our partners ?? Today we continue our partner presentation campaign with the city of Liberec! ?? Liberec is a Czech municipality located very near to the border with Poland and Germany, and with about 108,000 inhabitants it’s the 5th biggest city in Czechia. Liberec is working on many activities in the field of climate mitigation and adaptation. The city has been chosen to become a member of the EU Mission 100 Climate-neutral and Smart Cities by 2030 and delivered its City Climate Contract in 2024. Besides, the municipality developed its Climate Adaptation Strategy and Municipal Blue-Green infrastructure manual last year to cover all activities and move them forward to meet the adaptation goals. The city aims to tackle specific climate change impacts like the heat island in the city centre, droughts, and (flash) floods. To address these issues, the city will implement nature-based solutions such as planting greenery, revitalization of public spaces, parks or watercourses as well as water management solutions, including structural and technical interventions. ?? In ClimateFit, Liberec presents the Czech planner case study, showcasing innovative approaches to sustainable urban development and climate adaptation. Participation in the project will assist the city in helping to overcome the finance gap and to implement the climate adaptation actions planned. ??
