While global emissions have yet to peak, some countries are already reducing their emissions. Emissions dropped in 2023 and 2024 in the United Kingdom, showing progress towards the country's goal of reaching net-zero by 2050. The European Union’s Clean Industrial Deal (CID), published recently, is betting that a decarbonised steel industry will also be a more competitive one. The EU’s steel sector, responsible for 5.7% of the bloc’s annual greenhouse gas emissions, has been hit by rising energy costs. Our satellite-based estimates for Climate TRACE and supporting World Steel Association data show production at a ten year low. The Clean Industrial Deal commits €100 billion in funding to support EU-made clean manufacturing. Can it turn the ship around? We track over 400 heavy industry assets in the EU, including 106 steel plants, as part of ClimateTRACE’s annual independent global inventory of greenhouse gas emitting assets. Singapore, just 1 of the 13 countries to submit their NDCs on time, has said it is on track to meet ambitious climate targets and reduce at least 45 million tonnes of carbon emissions by 2035. The Búzios oil field off the coast of Brazil is the country’s second-highest oil-producing asset, and it just reached a new record for daily oil production. Pumping out 800,000 barrels of oil per day, the oil field also produces significant greenhouse gas and other emissions. View this asset on ClimateTRACE.org/explore to see recent emissions data.

What can you see on the Climate TRACE emissions map? Here is a list of data layers accessible via the interactive map, which features emissions from more than 1.8 million assets: ?? Sector and subsector: Choose the sector (and optionally, subsector) of interest. Example: sector: agriculture, subsector: rice cultivation. ??? Gas: You can choose the emissions type and toggle between carbon dioxide, nitrous oxide, and methane to highlight specific greenhouse gases. You can also use the carbon dioxide equivalent (CO2e) option, which includes all of the above. Many assets also have other, non-GHG emissions data available, like PM2.5. ??Geography: Narrow your view by country, state/province, or specific cities to explore emissions and sources in different regions. ?? Time: Emissions data are available on the map from 2021-2024. You can access historical data prior to 2021 on other pages of the site.
