Together we can amplify our voices, take action and, educate on climate change.
关于我们
We educate the profession and the public about the urgent risks of the climate crisis, including its profound impacts on mental health and well-being. As a grassroots collaboration of psychiatrists and other mental health professionals, we aim to nimbly and creatively advocate for change—educating and motivating others to act to protect health and build a sustainable world. We are creating a forum to bring psychiatrists and other mental health professionals together to form a collective voice. We intend: To provide a vehicle for sharing information, promoting empowering actions, supporting rational responses, and fostering resilience; To provide resources and information to professionals, the public, and the media about the health and mental health impacts of climate disruption; To influence policy, through effective advocacy, to professional organizations and policy leaders at the local, state, and national levels; To inform and educate the profession, and the public, about best practices to support individual and community mental health and well-being in the face of climate change; To establish collaboration with like-minded national and international colleagues and groups.

Not long ago, under the leadership of David J Hornsby and in collaboration with community and youth organizations, I received funding from the Ontario Ministry of Colleges and Universities to develop an online professional development course in Climate Change and Youth Mental Health. Today, the development of the course is well underway, and we are actively seeking participation from various stakeholders. A key stakeholder is the younger generation, and it is crucial that we hear from as many youths and diverse walks of life as possible to ensure we create a professional development opportunity that is relevant, meaningful, and impactful. Please help me share information about our participatory initiative launched in partnership with Mochi4ThePlanet and our partners at Break the Divide, Families Canada / Familles Canada, and Biboye (Bo) Aganaba: ClimArts – Arts Contest 4 Climate. We accept entries from young people (25 years old and younger) until December 1, 2025. ? Just Released 2024 Lancet Countdown on Health and Climate Change: Very troubling report with many indicators indicate health impacts are at record breaking level; Increases in heat-related mortality, tree cover loss and all-time high levels of global carbon emissions. Few positives: The share of electricity from clean renewable energy is growing, more countries are developing health adaptation plans and, the amount of air pollution deaths from fossil fuels declined between 2016-2021. This year’s brief highlights three priority opportunities for decision makers to center health in its approach to climate action: - Rapidly reduce fossil fuel production and use while accelerating the transition to clean, non-combustion renewable energy to improve health and health equity. - Build resilient, adaptable communities and support public health to protect people from climate impacts. - Build U.S. global leadership through scaling up global investments and support for climate and health action. THE US ELECTION IS LESS THAN ONE WEEK AWAY. ELECTED LEADERS HAVE SHARP DIFFERENCES IN ADDRESSING THESE POLICY ISSUES. TAKE ACTION. VOTE!
