Alors que les discussions à la #COP29 battent leur plein, nous avons co-signé une tribune dans Les Echos avec Pascal Lamy, Président de la Climate Overshoot Commission , VP du Forum de Paris sur la Paix et ancien Directeur général de Omc/wto Organisation Mondiale du Commerce pour rappeler que cette COP doit être l’occasion d’intégrer des mesures sanitaires. La santé est un enjeu majeur face au changement climatique : ???Les vagues de chaleur, les inondations et les sécheresses affectent déjà notre quotidien et mettent en péril la santé de millions de personnes dans le monde. ???à la COP29 de Bakou le 18 novembre, la santé sera au c?ur des discussions, avec des initiatives visant à mieux intégrer cette problématique dans la lutte contre le changement climatique. ???Selon une étude menée par Foundation S auprès de 1000 Fran?ais, 83% des citoyens s'inquiètent de l'impact du climat sur leur santé. ????Ensemble, nous devons agir pour préparer la capacité et la résilience de nos systèmes de santé face à ces défis. ?? Notre président Pascal Lamy et Vanina Laurent-Ledru rappellent que la COP29 doit être l'occasion d'intégrer des mesures sanitaires dans la lutte contre le changement climatique, dans Les Echos. https://lnkd.in/erXNgtjp "Mais alors que 91?% des citoyens, à l'échelle mondiale, s'alarment des effets du climat sur la santé, moins de 5?% des financements dédiés à l'adaptation climatique sont consacrés à des mesures sanitaires. Ce sous-investissement est d'autant plus incompréhensible qu'il est établi qu'un euro investi dans des actions de santé face au climat peut générer jusqu'à quatre euros de bénéfices économiques. En omettant de s'attaquer à ce problème, nous compromettons non seulement notre capacité à protéger la santé de nos populations, mais aussi celle des systèmes de santé eux-mêmes, déjà sous pression. ?? Thank you to all those who joined the launch of our first policy paper on “Reducing the Health Risks of Climate Overshoot,” at the World Health Summit 2024 #WHS2024 ?? Our policy paper is available in six different UN languages via this link: https://lnkd.in/efePFhXi The discussion focused on the findings and recommendations of the Commission’s policy paper. Key takeaways included: ? Dr. Thelma Krug highlighted the growing health risks of climate overshoot and emphasized the need for integrating health and climate through the CARE Agenda. She also noted the significant finance gap in health adaptation. ?Commissioner Carlos Alvarado Quesada stressed the importance of phasing out fossil fuels, pointing to Costa Rica’s economic benefits from decarbonization and the health risks associated with air pollution. ? Vanina Laurent-Ledru (Foundation S) underscored that investing in health brings a fourfold return but noted a $366 billion finance gap. She called for increased philanthropic funding for health-climate initiatives. ? Professor Gordon Liu (Peking University) reminded the reality of siloed approaches and how they affect change at the local level, and how subsidies need to be reviewed as health impacts are more costly than preventive climate action.? ?
