This is a critical climate election—and we need to vote like our lives depend on it. That's the urgent warning from ex-fire chief Greg Mullins, who’s spent more than 50 years fighting on the front line of disasters. Before the Black Summer, Greg Mullins, along with 22 other former fire chiefs, tried to warn then-Prime Minister Scott Morrison about the horrific fire conditions, only to be ignored. Now Greg is warning voters that the Federal Liberal-National Coalition still has no credible plan to cut climate pollution or protect Australians from worsening disasters. As the election looms, we must heed Greg’s advice and "Vote like our lives depend on it—because they do." Learn more here: https://lnkd.in/gzCBEk9X

"Dutton’s plan to expand gas production is a folly. No new gas projects are needed to meet Australia’s energy needs. The best way to cut energy prices is to accelerate the shift to the cheapest form of energy - which is from wind, solar and storage." - Wesley Morgan, Climate Council Fellow and Research Associate at Institute for Climate Risk and Response.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has just announced that Australians will cast their ballot for our 48th parliament on May 3rd. The next term of Federal Parliament will take us most of the way to 2030 — when the science tells us the lion’s share of cuts to climate pollution need to happen. The policies that Australians back at the ballot box in five weeks’ time will shape the future of our kids, their kids and generations to come. The time to make a difference is now. Let’s vote like our lives depend on it, because they do. #FederalElection #ClimatePollution #Australian2025Election #AusPol

The Federal Opposition’s policies outlined in tonight's Budget Reply put more Australians in the crosshairs of escalating climate-fuelled disasters. Their policies help the polluting gas industry with handouts and promises to wave through more projects. It continues their poor track record on climate change with more of the same: more excuses, more delays, and more harmful climate pollution from coal and gas. The Coalition still has no credible plan to deal with climate change, or replace our ageing coal generators. We need leaders who will take our future seriously. #Auspol #Election2025

Parts of Queensland's south-west have been hit by sudden rains and floods, with the town of Quilpie recording its wettest day in 15 years. "It's going to have fairly severe consequences … some people could nearly lose all their stock." Climate change, driven by the burning of coal, oil and gas, is making weather events more extreme and unpredictable. We must urgently reduce climate pollution to ensure a safer future.

The Federal Budget has just dropped. It reveals that Australians are footing a $13.5 billion bill for worsening extreme weather fuelled by climate pollution, which underscores why we should be spending more on permanent solutions that better protect Australians. While $1.8 billion of further electricity bill rebates will provide temporary relief for households, the Climate Council is calling for the government to make commitments that permanently bust power bills and slash climate pollution, like rooftop solar, household batteries, electrification, and energy efficiency.
