A common thread emerged in last week's Zoom chat: talking about climate change—and specifically nudging friends to get involved—can be tiring if the response is lackluster. ?? This is so real.??? Apathy and complacency are tough cookies. Two themes came out of those conversations: ?? First, plugging into a place where people?are engaged?and are committed to the work ahead?is such a relief (hello Climate Changemakers Slack and Action Team events!). ?? Second, it's?good that people care about many important issues. Whatever someone loves and wants to protect, climate change touches it. When we can find that Venn – honoring friends' top priorities and our own "climate whys" – that's when previously tiring convos can become freeing, energizing, and generative. ? That's when offering an outlet to action becomes a gift, not an ask.?? See the Bring a Friend into Action playbook?for how to activate friends over the holiday: https://lnkd.in/g4-m7CxR You – and uniquely you – have the power to tug a few friends off the sidelines with a simple ask. When each of us brings a few folks to the climate action party, our collective impact is multiplied and our message grows stronger.?

Does your family have differing opinions on climate science? ?? You’re not alone. Three things to keep in mind: 1?? climate action supporters make up the dominant majority both globally and in the U.S. (yup) 2?? we do not?need?to engage with combative climate deniers to be successful as a movement (phew) 3?? and sticking to our personal motivations ('climate why!') is a tried-and-true, compelling way to navigate any convo. How to Have an Effective Climate Conversation is a free Climate Changemakers resource that synthesizes all the best practices into memorable tactics and tips for effectively (and emotionally safely!) talking about climate change: https://lnkd.in/guPTeR5h See it and share it!

Millions of Americans are concerned about climate change but are still sitting on the sidelines. ?? Specifically... 28% of Americans would take political action on climate – if asked by someone they like and respect.* Each of us knows at least a few people in that 28%! ? That means you – and only you – have the power to tug a few friends off the sidelines with a simple ask. ? ?? This playbook guides you through the process of extending an authentic and personal invitation to 3-5 key people in your network: https://lnkd.in/g4-m7CxR Do this on your own time or drop into any Hour of Action to co-work with fellow busy, productive people. *Source: Yale Program on Climate Change Communication & Center for Climate Change Communication, George Mason University Climate Change in the American Mind: Politics & Policy, Spring 2024: report (https://lnkd.in/gNXqByXQ)
