We know that consistently delivering scientific facts about climate change has a long-term effect on opinions and attitudes, yet the communication of science based solely upon existential threats can paralyze audiences and cause climate inaction. So, how do we talk to people about this? Welcome to the new world of climate communications. Welcome to Climate Basecamp. Climate Basecamp is a sister organisation to the wildly successful Arctic Basecamp. It will deliver inventive, media friendly campaigns to raise awareness of the urgency and relevance of transformative climate action through the culture our target audience consumes and follows. Scientific facts are presented through humour, satire and relevant cultural references. Climate Basecamp will be a not-for-profit US registered organization whose mission is to ‘speak science to culture’. Its vision is a world where all areas of the planet are protected from climate change for the benefit of all. Imagine a world where the brilliance of science is no longer confined to the elite or university educated, but readily accessible to all. We want to ignite a passion for science in every corner of the globe, for when the collective intelligence of the people flourishes, so too does the impetus for positive change.
