#ClimateAction of the day: Urge Congress to get back in session and pass emergency funding for Hurricane Helene relief! Hurricane Helene has devastated communities across the southeastern United States, and Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and Tennessee all face an uphill battle on the road to recovery. These areas will not be able to rebuild -- and do so with resilience in mind -- without financial support. And now Hurricane Milton is on its way and expected to hit as a powerful Category 5 storm. Even if the current fund can support relief efforts for Helene, more funding will be needed as we proceed through hurricane season. It is time for Congress to get back in session and give these communities the support they need. #ClimateAction of the day: Urge federal legislators to support Rep. Ro Khanna's End Polluter Welfare for Enhanced Oil Recovery Act! This important legislation addresses a critical issue in current federal energy policy - the continued subsidization of Enhanced Oil Recovery (EOR) through tax credits. This bill aims to end these harmful subsidies, which reward fossil fuel companies for engaging in a process that ultimately does more harm than good to our environment. Currently, fossil fuel companies benefit from tax credits for injecting carbon dioxide into oil wells to extract additional oil. While this process is presented as a way to reduce atmospheric CO2, the reality is that it leads to more oil production, worsening the climate crisis. By eliminating these subsidies, we can stop rewarding an outdated practice that undermines the transition to cleaner, more sustainable energy sources. Representative Khanna's bill is a vital step in realigning federal policy to prioritize sustainability.
