Why Do So Many Pallet Racking Loads End Up Like This? ???This happens five to ten times a week. At just one warehouse... This week, I attended?ProMat 2025?and spent time at the booths of some of the biggest names in warehouse storage. I had conversations with the teams at?Frazier Industrial and?AR Racking, checking out the latest innovations in racking systems and storage solutions. But while I was there, I kept thinking about all the posts I see on flatbed forums, with drivers asking for advice on what to do because their racking loads shifted in transit. Towing compnay driver told me they get?5 to 10 calls a week?from drivers dealing with the same problem. The Aftermath? ???Missed deliveries.?Per diem installer crews standing around, burning cash. ???Crazy tow bills.?Driver thinks he owes two thousand and ends up getting charged?nineteen thousand. ??Freight held hostage.?Small carriers cannot pay these amounts and are stuck waiting on insurance to get their trailer released. ???Shippers dragged into lawsuits.?Check out the comment on the post. ?? Who’s at Fault? I believe everyone to a degree. ???Shippers?for not properly vetting their logistics providers.?Do they have real experience moving flatbed freight? ???Brokers?for not training their reps on proper securement, leaving them unable to confirm whether the trucking company or driver is handling the load correctly. ???Carriers?for not requiring dispatchers to follow a strict securement verification process. Regardless of a driver’s experience, dispatchers should be trained in securement and always request photos before a truck leaves the yard. ???Again, carriers?for not ensuring their drivers are properly trained in securing loads like pallet racking, steel, and unstable flatbed commodities. This is?not just a driver problem. It is a?supply chain problem. So Lets Fix It! If you are moving pallet racking, steel structures, or anything tall and heavy, do this: ??Ask for pictures?before the truck leaves the customer. ? Make sure X chains?are in place at the ends to prevent the load from tipping sideways. ? Vertical straps?go straight down from the top to keep everything locked in. ? Belly straps?secure the bottom rack to keep it from shifting. ? Blocking at the base?so nothing moves side to side. ???Drivers must stop after fifty to one hundred miles?to check and tighten everything. Loads settle in transit, and what was tight at pickup might be loose down the road.
