At CLS, Melissa forged connections with SMPS members from across the country, gaining insights and guidance that were invaluable throughout her term. The exposure to other chapter leaders and the in-depth training prepared her to take on challenges and embrace opportunities with confidence. Her involvement—whether through joining committees or serving on the board—expanded her professional network and fostered community within the chapter as she helped plan engaging educational and social events. Melissa’s commitment to volunteering has driven her career growth, developing her leadership skills and broadening her network in meaningful ways. Exciting news for Cumberland County, NC! T. A. Loving and Metcon, Inc. have officially broken ground on the Crown Event Center in Fayetteville. The 134,000 SF multipurpose event center is set to open in Spring 2027. The center will seat 3,000 guests and feature a rooftop terrace, flexible event spaces, and a range of amenities to support local performances, as well as community and regional events. Collaborating with MBP (McDonough Bolyard Peck), current Crown Complex manager Oak View Group, and EwingCole Architects, this project will significantly enhance Fayetteville’s downtown. At the groundbreaking, Commissioner Jimmy Keefe spoke about the center’s potential as an economic driver and a new landmark for the region. Fort Fisher's Finishing Touches With the Grand Opening just around the corner, the project team at #FortFisher has been hard at work to finalize each and every detail. Paul Hock, Bordeaux Construction Project Engineer, reflects on yesterday's installation of the #cannon: “The cannon installation was very smooth; it only took around 30 minutes – but it required a 125’ crane with roughly 6,000 lbs of counterweight to be able to get it into location. The carriage had to sit on a “pintle block” (a concrete column with a cast iron pin about 2” wide on top). There was a hole for this pin under the carriage that was the same size. This took some precise positioning, but we were able to set it one smooth motion.” The building’s construction has been a meticulous process that combined historical sensitivity with cutting-edge engineering. It’s been an honor to help bring Clark Nexsen, CLH design, p.a., and the North Carolina Department of Natural and Cultural Resources vision to life! As the NCASLA Trustee, I will work with the full Board of Trustees and American Society of Landscape Architects staff to establish policies, strategic objectives, and priorities; provide financial oversight, and monitor the program and budget in the context of the strategic plan. #asla2024

We are thrilled to announce that the?NC State University Memorial Belltower Restoration?project, a collaboration between?New Atlantic Contracting?and?Michael Graves has been honored with the prestigious?Sir Walter Raleigh Award! ?? The Mayor of Raleigh spoke at the event, celebrating this remarkable achievement. One image features Michael Hardman, Dr. Stafford, and John Morrison together. This project restored a historic landmark and enhanced its functionality and accessibility, making it a cherished symbol for the North Carolina State University State University community and the City of Raleigh Municipal Government. Project Highlights: -Restoration of the 112-foot granite tower?and its 48-foot-square plinth. -Interior restoration?of the marble-walled Shrine Room and Memorial Tablet. -Installation of a 55-bell carillon?and playing cabin. -Upgraded mechanical and electrical systems. -Universal accessibility?with a gradually ascending path around the plaza.
