This World Water Day and always, CWA is proud to work alongside water stewards, utilities, researchers, agencies, legislators, and companies at the forefront of managing and conserving our most precious resource. Our Great Lakes account for 21% of the world's fresh surface water, and we don't take that for granted. The need has never been so urgent: innovation around how we use, protect, remediate, and fortify water resources and infrastructure is critical to the future of our industries, communities, and economies - here in the Great Lakes region and around the world.

Meet Jay Almlie from Satelytics! ???? Jay Almlie is the Chief Marketing Officer at Satelytics. He leads a focused team, charged with the task of conveying the central message of Satelytics: we are THE leader in geospatial analytics for the energy sector. Jay brings a unique perspective to marketing, having previously been a customer of Satelytics. Jay managed the founding, formation, and execution of the nationally acclaimed industry consortium, the intelligent Pipeline Integrity Program (iPIPE). iPIPE’s continuous mission is to fill the empty slots in the toolbelts of the pipeline industry with new technology for pipeline leak detection. With Jay at the helm, iPIPE awarded three consecutive contracts to Satelytics to develop software tailored specifically to the needs of pipeline operators. This effort placed Satelytics into the comfortable leadership position we hold firmly today. CWA’s Max Herzog attended the WateReuse Association's 2025 WateReuse Symposium this week! Check out his post below for some key takeaways from the event.
My first #WaterReuseSummit was a crash course in the state of #science, #technology, and #policy around #CircularEconomy for water in the U.S. See below for some of my key takeaways! ???? At the national level - Reuse is a key tool in our toolkit for addressing water stress. The scope of the challenge to shift hearts and minds is huge but there are amazing resources available to support work towards this end. ?? Public and institutional trust are fundamental to success and collaboration is key to building trust. Early conversations with decision makers and strategic communication with the public enables joint investments and effective policy. ??? Pilots are essential for evaluating the effectiveness of innovative technology in local contexts. Successful demonstrations build cross-sectoral buy-in and pave the way to scaled infrastructure investments. ?? Funding programs exist at the Federal level but State, Private Sector, and Municipal dollars are driving this movement on the ground. Local needs, corporate commitments, and State policy are likely to lead the way. ?? At home in Ohio - Water Reuse is a rapidly growing focus area, even in our comparatively water-rich state. Significant gaps exist between source water capacity and future industrial, agricultural, and population growth projections. ?? Ohio EPA and Hazen and Sawyer will soon be releasing an amazing dashboard that maps these gaps at the county level and make initial planning and project recommendations. Stay tuned for a state-wide rollout! ?? Ohio is committed to tackling these challenges head on. Representation in Tampa was strong across the utilities, agencies, and consultants leading our burgeoning Water Reuse chapter, on whose board I am honored to serve. ??? We can learn from other regions. Florida's robust statewide policy, Virginia's work with data centers, and the great research led by National Alliance for Water Innovation are examples of powerful existing resources. All in all this was an extremely valuable event that I hope to attend again next year. It was great to see some of our innovation partners such as Badger Meter, LG Sonic, and Xylem exhibiting and to meet new friends offering exciting technology solutions in the space. Special thanks to Black & Veatch for hosting me at their dinner event and the The Florida Aquarium for putting on an amazing conference reception. I'm looking forward diving deeper when I represent Cleveland Water Alliance at the Industrial Water Solutions conference June 23-25 in Columbus!
