The Greater Cleveland Food Bank works to ensure that everyone in our communities has the nutritious food they need every day. The Food Bank supplies a majority of the food used in local hot meal sites, shelters, and food pantries. In addition, we provide food to child care centers, group homes, and programs for the elderly. We work closely with other Northeast Ohio hunger relief organizations, providing food and nonfood products to hunger centers administered by the Hunger Network of Greater Cleveland, the Catholic Hunger and Shelter Network, and the Salvation Army, among others. We are tremendously thankful for the support of Huntington National Bank at one of our largest Community Resource Center distributions yesterday! Not only did they make a generous donation, but 120 Huntington volunteers helped us serve 344 households, making up nearly 1,000 individuals, with all the fixings for a delicious and nutritious holiday meal. We also distributed over 4,000 diapers to families in need with the Diaper Bank and friends from Cuyahoga County! Thank you, Huntington! #giveback #volunteer #foodinsecurity #fighthunger

These initiatives aren’t just supporting our anti-hunger movement; they’re improving the lives and health outcomes of our neighbors. Their support helps us partner with healthcare partners and Food as Medicine clinics, as well as our new Nourishing Beginnings program which helps connect pregnant people to nutritious food and programs. Did you know that the #FoodAsMedicine partnership between Feeding America the Elevance Health Foundation supports 21 food banks to advance healthcare partnership interventions? By linking food assistance with medical support, the partnership is improving access to nutritious food and enhancing health and well-being for people facing food insecurity. Here’s how: ???Comprehensive Screenings: ?More than 529,000 people have been screened for food insecurity during healthcare visits. ???Supportive Referrals:? Nearly 90,000 people who tested positive for food insecurity were referred to Food as Medicine programming, and 15,000 were referred to SNAP.? ???Nutritious Food Assistance:? More than 76,000 people have received wholesome food assistance, prioritizing low-sodium, whole grains, and fresh produce options to support health. ???Healthcare Partnerships: ?21 food banks work with local clinics and medical centers to reach those in need, integrating food assistance with critical healthcare services. ???Positive Outcomes: ?Programs like The Food Farmacy at Regional Food Bank of Northeast NY, in partnership with St. Peter's Health Partners, witnessed significant health improvements among participants, including stabilized A1C levels and improved weight management.
