This week we are featuring Lee Stacey, who joined us this year as a Member-at-Large for the Cleveland chapter. Lee works as Managing Director of McGowan Insurance with executive responsibility overseeing four business units: two retail brokerages and two MGAs.?He is a graduate of Grand Valley State University and University of Detroit Mercy. We asked Lee a few questions... Why did you decide to join the Cleveland CPCU Society Chapter as a volunteer board member? After spending over 20 long years of studying and exams to complete my designation (yes, it took me that long), I wanted to be in a position to give back to the industry that has provided me with a wonderful career.?I am at a point in my life and career where one of the yardsticks that I measure my own success by is how much I give back. What are you most excited about contributing to the chapter in your new role? I feel that as designees, we have a responsibility to be thought leaders in the insurance industry and to share best practices with our industry comrades to ensure integrity, consistency, and a sense of fairness and intellectual equity in the profession of insurance.?We have many designees in our area that are not active members of our local chapter and I want to increase awareness of the chapter’s mission as a repository of knowledge for the industry, fostering engagement and participation. Why was CPCU for you? We have always encouraged our employees to procure professional designations, and as a senior leader, I have to lead by example.?While my day-to-day duties no longer revolve around technical insurance issues, I cannot ask our employees to do something I am not willing to do myself. This week for your 2025 Cleveland CPCU board we are featuring Jenna Keesey, CPCU, CIC. She moved into the Immediate Past President role this year after serving two consecutive terms as Chapter President. Jenna works as an Account Executive Officer – Construction at Travelers and is a graduate of The Ohio State University – Go Bucks!!! We asked Jenna a few questions about her CPCU journey. Why did you decide to serve the Cleveland CPCU Society Chapter as a volunteer board member? I was on my way to completing my CPCU in 2018, and an associate of mine asked me to be involved with the Board. I expressed an interest in one day becoming President, and by the end of the week, I was on the ballot to be President-Elect for my Conferment year of 2019. While the process was quick, my desire to join the Board started early in my career and my CPCU journey. Earning the CPCU designation is only the beginning! I want to continue to serve my local insurance industry through the principles of The CPCU Society. What are you most excited about contributing to the chapter in your new role? This year, I am excited to pass the torch to Katie and Candice as our new President and President-elect, respectively. I look forward to providing guidance as they navigate their new roles. I respect these women and what they bring to our community. I can’t wait to support their initiatives! Why was CPCU for you? I was fortunate to start my career under the tutelage of a VP that valued education. The CPCU designation wasn’t a privilege, as much as it was to be expected for anyone that wanted to show their commitment to the industry. As I grew within my underwriting role, I recognized that the designation would especially help me as a young underwriter navigating a world that (rightfully) celebrates experience. As I continue to mature in my role, I find value in giving back to my peers and encouraging others to be their best self. Welcome Jenna! Yesterday was our first in person Cleveland CPCU Chapter event of 2025! We had a great CE class on Generational Differences presented by Zelma Sharp, CPCU, ASLI. We are appreciate of her knowledge and ability to lead great conversational presentation. Don’t forget we have some additional upcoming events: 2 Hour Ethics CE course on 3/10/2025 (this is free for Cleveland CPCU members) and our chapter board meeting is on 3/13/2025.
