Join us at Gallaudet’s 2024 Homecoming for the exciting launch of the Bilingual Stories Bookshelf app and its Shakur series! Featuring over 40 storybooks, this virtual bookshelf celebrates the rich diversity of Deaf experiences. The Shakur series, available as both board books and storybook apps, highlights Black Deaf characters using American Sign Language and showcases the variety of cultural perspectives within the Deaf community. This initiative, proudly sponsored by the Regional Early Acquisition of Language (REAL) Project, a collaboration between the Laurent Clerc National Deaf Education Center at Gallaudet University and the Alabama Institute for Deaf and Blind, is dedicated to ensuring deaf and hard of hearing children have full access to language from birth to age 3. We are immensely grateful for the many deaf designers who contributed to the creation of our new mark, which in addition to Clerc’s namesign?swish emerging from the ‘C’ includes red and yellow colorways for?Kendall Demonstration Elementary School and Model Secondary School for the Deaf. Together, KDES, MSSD, and the Clerc Center national service teams are on a mission to?build a world where every deaf and hard of hearing child and their family has effortless language access and can learn without limits.
