Clemson University Libraries invites applications and nominations for the position of Strategic Assessment Librarian. This position works in a collaborative library environment to plan, promote, and sustain a culture of assessment across the Libraries and articulate the value of academic library services. The Strategic Assessment Librarian assumes a leadership role in planning, implementing, and sustaining an assessment program for Clemson University Libraries. The librarian will identify and assess meaningful organizational performance indicators for improvement, including establishing procedures and monitoring all reporting mechanisms. This is a 12-month tenure track position. The individual will lead strategic assessment across all divisions and work closely with department heads and librarians to pursue data-driven insight on library operations and user experiences, including collections, facilities, instruction, and library technology. This position designs an assessment program that informs library strategic planning and aligns with the university’s mission and planning. Clemson University Special Collections and Archives has created a new Research Travel Award to to assist researchers from across the country in visiting SCA to conduct their research. The award provides financial support for master’s or doctoral graduate students or established scholars to visit and conduct original research in SCA. Researchers can receive up to $5,000, which can be used towards travel and accommodation in Clemson for the purpose of visiting SCA and accessing its collections for their research. SCA specializes in collections related to political, military, agriculture and local history. Completed applications for the 2025 award cycle should be submitted by December 15, 2024, to?[email protected]. Current Clemson University students and faculty are not eligible for the award. Twenty-six Clemson researchers received awards from Clemson Libraries’ Open Access Publishing Fund in the Spring semester to help publish their work in open-access journals. Researchers can receive up to $1,500 to pay for publishing costs in peer-reviewed, open-access journals, making their work more broadly accessible to the general public. Amongst the 50 to win the 2024 Movers And Shakers Award, Shamella Cromartie, the associate dean for organizational performance and administration for Clemson Libraries,?was recognized in the Change Agents category for her work to uplift others in the field of librarianship, especially those who are under-represented in the field. The new class of Movers and Shakers represents an inspiring sample of the work in and around libraries today. They are developing programming for patrons with disabilities, providing a place to land after school for teens, creating and restoring balance to their boards, connecting libraries with federal funding, helping design sustainable facilities, teaching community members how to archive their collections, battling censorship attempts, and more.
