CEI Collaborative Seed Grants provide teams of University of Washington faculty with up to $100,000 over one year to explore novel, high-risk/high-reward research topics, while seeding new collaborations in research, education, and community engagement that significantly increase the prospects for future extramural support. Group14 CEO Rick (Eric) Luebbe joined Washington Governor Jay Inslee to celebrate the expansion of the University of Washington's Clean Energy Testbeds. The new facility will broaden opportunities for battery innovation by enabling scaled prototyping of cutting-edge battery technologies. As Rick put it, “These new prototyping capabilities at the Testbeds are filling a critical need for battery innovation infrastructure in the U.S.” Washington state is continuing to power the global clean energy future! ???

What a day! Today the UW Clean Energy Institute (CEI) unveiled our plans for a new battery facility at our Washington Clean Energy Testbeds. The new lab, dedicated to battery innovation,?will put the Clean Energy Institute at the forefront of global battery development, enabling researchers and industry users to innovate to?stretch the power and performance of batteries. The lab is key to delivering on the Clean Energy Institute’s mission of?accelerating the adoption of a scalable and equitable clean energy future that will improve the health and economy of WA state, our nation, and world. I am so excited to see a program like this at my alma mater. This is perfect for those in or entering the battery field who want to gain more knowledge in electrochemical engineering, material science, manufacturing, and system design.

At the Clean Energy Institute of the University of Washington we learned about how research and developing, private investors, companies, start-ups, government & communities can work together to bring climate tech innovations to the market. Also at Flexport we were discussing about climate change, since transport has a significant impact of all global carbon dioxide emissions from energy. Interesting to get a deeper insight into the carbon footprint of different forms of transport. Sustainabilty was even a topic at our site visit at SAP, where they believe, that no-future orientated business transformation is complete without sustainability. Besides discussing about the company‘s approches to achieve net-zero emessions across its entire value chain by 2030, we talked, of course, about AI, cloud transformation, data ethics and cyber threats.
