Detroit's Jefferson Chalmers neighborhood is a designated flood zone. 39% of residents live below the poverty line, and 74% of residents are Black. ? In 2020, CEG awarded a Technical Assistance Fund (TAF) grant to the City of Detroit Office of Sustainability to conduct a solar+storage feasibility assessment on a vacant building that would eventually become the A.B. Ford Community Center. ? Thanks in part to this assessment provided through the TAF, the neighborhood can now rely on the community center in the event of an outage to distribute food and safe drinking water, create access to heating or air-conditioning during extreme temperatures, and provide a place to charge their phones, refrigerate medication, and gather as a community. ? CEG's Technical Assistance Fund (TAF) helps community-serving organizations in low-income and underserved communities to develop resilient power solutions in the event of a power outage.
