From just seven countries in 2015 to over 100 today, cooling is now a cornerstone of climate action plans globally. Since 2020, the Clean Cooling Collaborative’s NDC (Nationally Determined Contributions) Support Facility has been helping ten countries integrate efficient, climate-friendly cooling into their long-term climate action plans. We're proud to be driving this growing movement towards global clean cooling solutions. Despite challenges like the Covid-19 pandemic and political instability, tangible progress has been made. From Pakistan’s proposed energy standards for refrigerated display cabinets to Morocco's efficiency regulations for air conditioners and refrigerators, the impact of the NDC Support Facility is clear. As the 2025 submission deadline approaches, our implementing partner, the UN Environment Programme-led Cool Coalition, is preparing new guidelines to help countries enhance their cooling commitments. 关于我们
Clean Cooling Collaborative (formerly K-CEP) is an initiative of ClimateWorks Foundation focused on increasing access to efficient, climate-friendly cooling. In 2016, leading climate foundations collaborated ahead of the Montreal Protocol meeting in Kigali, Rwanda, and pledged more than $50 million to create the largest-ever fund of its kind for action on efficient, climate-friendly cooling. The following spring, the Kigali Cooling Efficiency Program (K-CEP) was born, under the management of a new secretariat assembled by and housed within the ClimateWorks Foundation. Under the Kigali Amendment to the Montreal Protocol, 197 countries committed to cut hydrofluorocarbon (HFC) production and consumption by more than 80% by mid-century. The secretariat was charged with strategically programming interventions for the funds under a directive to advance appliance efficiency reforms alongside efforts to support the implementation of the new global HFC phase down under the Kigali Amendment. In 2021, we refreshed our strategy and updated our name to reflect our revised scope of work. Now, as the Clean Cooling Collaborative, we will continue to build on our past efforts to place cooling on the global agenda by catalyzing organizations, institutions, companies, and governments to bring efficient, climate-friendly policies, financing, and technology solutions to the world.

Ceiling fans are the primary way for most Indians to keep cool during scorching summers, with almost every home and office in India having one. While high-efficiency ceiling fans are available, these units make up just 3% of annual sales. As India moves to increase cooling access while reducing energy consumption,?the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), GreenTree Global, and the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India hosted a workshop to support the advancement of affordable, domestically produced, and high-efficiency ceiling fans. During the event, participants shared their perspectives on durability issues, market demand, consumer expectations, and gap areas for R&D. They also highlighted?sector needs and solutions that would help drive innovation in technology, financing, and the ceiling fan market. 71 countries, over 60 organizations, one shared goal: efficient, climate-friendly, accessible cooling for all. Achieving this vision demands global collaboration. That’s why we proudly support the Global Cooling Pledge, a landmark initiative launched at COP28 by the UN Environment Programme-led Cool Coalition and the COP28 UAE Presidency. This first-of-its-kind pledge unites countries and organizations in decisive action to cut cooling-related emissions and increase access to sustainable cooling solutions. It outlines 14 key actions, including adopting high-efficiency standards for cooling appliances, phasing down HFC refrigerants, and expanding passive cooling solutions. As we look forward, the Cool Coalition and partners are working to ensure the pledge commitments drive tangible impact, while CCC continues to engage stakeholders worldwide in this critical effort. Between 2021 and 2023, media coverage of cooling solutions skyrocketed, with a sevenfold increase in stories on extreme heat and sustainable cooling. This surge reflects the growing awareness of the vital role cooling plays in addressing climate change. Together with partners like the UN Environment Programme-led Cool Coalition, Sustainable Energy for All (SEforALL), and Atlantic Council's Climate Resilience Center, we’re transforming the conversation on extreme heat. Rather than focusing solely on rising temperatures, we’re emphasizing the importance of actionable solutions — like sustainable cooling — to tackle this global challenge. Through strategic media engagement, cohesive messaging, and participation in key global events, we’ve highlighted innovative cooling strategies making real-world impacts. We’ve also developed essential resources to equip stakeholders with the knowledge needed to drive action. Looking ahead, we remain committed to advancing global climate resilience through partnerships and strategic communications. Extreme heat affects our health directly and indirectly by disrupting the supply of fresh foods, which are essential for nutrition and overall well-being. Rising temperatures make it harder to preserve food quality from farm to fork, making resilient cold chains vital for food security and health. Investing in efficient, climate-friendly cooling solutions helps protect public health while minimizing climate impact. Did you know that the world's cities are heating up at twice the average global rate due to the urban heat island effect? Urban heat islands are created where there is less green space, more heat-absorbing materials like concrete and steel, and waste heat from human activities. By scaling up the use of passive cooling techniques and nature-based solutions, we can keep our cities cooler, making them better places to live while reducing the need for carbon-intensive mechanical cooling appliances like air conditioners. This World Cities Day, learn more about the importance of sustainable urban cooling in the Cool Cities infographic from our #KeepItCool campaign ?? #SustainableCooling #PassiveCooling #NatureBasedSolutions #NbS #UrbanNature #UrbanHeat #UrbanHeatIslands #ExtremeHeat #CoolingForAll #ActOnCooling #CoolCities #ClimateAction #ClimateResilience #EmissionsReductions #ClimateMitigation #ClimateAdaptation #WorldCitiesDay
