The Clean Cities Program is an initiative of the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) and focuses on strategies to reduce petroleum consumption in transportation. There are nearly 100 Clean Cities Coalitions across the country and Clean Cities–Georgia holds the distinction of being the first coalition. DOE officially designated the coalition in 1993. Clean Cities–Georgia is the central coordinating point for alternative fuel vehicle (AFV) activities in the state of Georgia. Our shared mission with the national Clean Cities Program is to: Advance the energy, economic, and environmental security of the United States by supporting local actions to reduce petroleum use in transportation.

Our team had a great time at UGA's E-Mobility Summit! Sumner Pomeroy, our Program Manager, Spencer Clifford, our Program Coordinator, and our two new Green Fleet Fellows Larry Heiman and Autumn Starbird were able to attend. For EV manufacturing and industry, Georgia has more than $29B in investments that will provide 36,000 jobs across 31 counties. Despite misinformation in the news, electric vehicle purchases continue to rise. We keep charging on! #CleanCitiesGeorgia

To kick off Clean Cities Georgia's member highlights for this year, we are featuring Cobb County Government Fleets! Cobb Fleet has deployed the EV ARC “BEAM” and is actively upgrading aging electric vehicle charging stations through a RIP & Replace initiative funded by various grants. To recognize and encourage sustainability efforts, they recently launched a Department Sustainability Awards Program, celebrating departments that lead in eco-friendly initiatives. Additionally, Cobb Fleet proudly operates one of the largest EV fleets in the Southeast and remains deeply involved in community engagement through partnerships with Goodwill, Chattahoochee Tech, KSU, and the Krimson Community Foundation. This group has garnered multiple awards, including the NAFA Green Garage Award, NAFA Green Fleet Award, and NAFA 100 Best Fleet in North America, all last year in 2024. They are one of the top innovative fleets in the state of Georgia, if not the nation.

Announced just last month, Hyundai Motor Group Metaplant America (HMGMA), in cooperation with Glovis America, shared it has deployed Hyundai XCIENT heavy-duty hydrogen fuel-cell electric trucks for clean logistics operations. Initially, a total of 21 XCIENT trucks will be in operation. Hyundai XCIENT fuel cell trucks are photographed at the Port of Brunswick, Georgia and more in the article.
