Helping Every Quiet Voice Be Heard Through Child Advocacy
关于我们
The mission of The Children’s Law Center ("CLC") is to provide children with a strong and effective voice in legal proceedings that have a critical impact on children’s lives. CLC represents children in custody/visitation, guardianship, domestic violence and connected child protective cases. At CLC, our core values are: ? to provide high quality representation; ? to provide children with supportive, informed and passionate advocates who give voice to their unique needs Our Client Values are: ? Communicate our client’s voice ? High quality representation ? Integrate legal representation with social work ? Listen to our clients ? Develop the client’s sense of participation How Can I Help? The most direct and immediate way to help the children we represent at CLC is to provide financial support so that our attorneys and social workers can continue their vital work on critical issues that impact the lives of thousands of children involved in the court system. Contested custody, visitation and guardianship cases can be extremely traumatic for a child. Due to the elimination, or lack of availability of critical therapeutic and parenting services, and an overburdened Family Court, CLC’s clients benefit from our advocacy more than ever before. We are so excited to launch this project and to amplify children’s voices.
The Children's Law Center celebrated the launch of the Children’s Voice Project this week. It was a beautiful night. Jahlia Hernandez, our inaugural CVP Fellow, showed us all why it is so important to provide a forum to hear from those who have been subject children in contested custody, visitation and domestic violence cases. Her story, and the collective voice of the many others with lived experience, has the power to move mountains. #Justice begins at home. Thank you to the many folks who help us support children’s agency and well-being. New York City Council, Goldman Sachs, Christopher Rizzo , Jackson Lewis P.C.. And to our many friends, colleagues, board members and staff who came out. Lauren Aguiar, Leslie Abbey , Judy Kluger Laurie McPherson , Abby West (she/her), Uju Obi Berry and many others! There is MUCH more to come!

Thank you to Council Member Rita Joseph for her support. We are proud to fight for the rights of children from Council District #40 and across the City!
I am so excited to annouce that The Children's Law Center received a discretionary grant award with support from Council Member Rita Joseph to help launch our Children’s Voice Project. With this support, we are bringing together young people with lived experience as subject children in complex custody, visitation, domestic violence and guardianship proceedings in Family Court. Our clients are among the City's most vulnerable children, often with very little access to support from government agencies. These children and young people stand at the intersection of so many systems and competing needs that they can easily fall through the cracks. We are making it our mission to change that. Our goal for our Children’s Voice Project is to provide a forum for young people to help shape the conversation around Family Court, family law, and what children need to thrive. Children should be seen and heard! Thank you to New York City Council , Joel Desouve (he/him)

Summer in the City with CLC!
We had so much fun at The Children's Law Center summer funfest yesterday! Our folks from across the City gathered together in a mercifully shadey and breezy spot at Riverbank State Park for food and games. A well deserved break for am amazing team! With special thanks for Jonelli Borden, Jasmine Florestal and Yolanda A Martindale, LMSW who helped pull it together. Thanks also to board members Elizabeth Childs and Emmanuel Onyeukwu for joining us!

Congratulations to Louise Feld and Rachel Stanton on the publication of their excellent article focusing attention on the harm done to children when child protective investigation become weapons. Our current laws make that much too easy. Check out their piece: https://lnkd.in/e7xqpSat

From an article on the importance of counsel for children in cases which can and do dramatically impact their lives: "When young people are offered the opportunity to understand how and what decisions are being made about their lives, and given a chance to participate in those processes, kids can be empowered to heal.” It is critical to support Counsel for children in all Family Court proceedings. Thank you to the National Association of Counsel for Children!
From babies to young adults, youth in court should be seen, heard, and represented. We need #Counsel4Kids to ensure youth rights are protected! #LawDay #NationalFosterCareMonth @NACCchildlaw?https://lnkd.in/dQJRTa7p?
