Clayworks’ Rammed Earth finishes have been developed as an answer to the complex and technical challenges of building with monolithic mass, an ancient, natural construction method. Traditional rammed earth architecture requires many tonnes of compressed earth to create buildings with structural integrity, prohibiting its use and viability in most urban and retrofit contexts. Clayworks rammed earth can be applied as an entirely customisable 7-10 millimetre thick wall build-up, suitable for all wall and construction types. This innovation entirely revolutionises the way natural building techniques can be applied in contemporary buildings, delivering a wholly natural and sustainable option to typical chemical-based plaster surfaces. First launched as an interior range in 2019, Clayworks has since partnered with internationally acclaimed architects and designers, including OMA, Neri & Hu, and Studio Mai, to deliver rammed earth interiors in restaurants, retail spaces, and homes across the world. The collection is made from 100% natural clays, minerals, sands and coloured with natural earth pigments, emulating the textural and tonal characteristics of monolithic earth architecture. Each layer is produced, pressed, and compacted by hand, and so the colour and width of layers are entirely customisable through Clayworks’ bespoke finish service.

Earth plasters, renders, and paints are featured in Dezeen's latest lookbook. It's wonderful to see the growing and sustained interest in incorporating earth-based materials into contemporary architecture. These materials not only foster a healthier balance for both the environment and the user but also contribute to inherently beautiful designs. https://lnkd.in/eaz3pB7C

Featured recently in Dwell. Taper House by Merrett Houm?ller Architects and All & Nxthing. From the architect: "Merrett Houm?ller Architects turned a series of dark, cramped, and uninspired rooms in a London terrace into Taper House, which features a dramatic trapezoidal-shaped, double-height kitchen and dining space. Merrett Houm?ller Architects, interior designers All & Nxthing, and the client collaborated to turn the London terrace home into a three-story family residence that’s a dramatic departure from conventional townhouse layouts. The extended and refurbished home features an interplay of connected volumes. The architects aimed to transform the tired-looking Victorian house into a contemporary home that forms a closer relationship with the garden and natural light. The extension has tall trapezium-shaped internal openings and pitched forms that form calm and inviting church-like grandeur. Integral to the brief was to create something that had a more positive impact on the world than negative. Choice of materials was based around this; both regarding the environmental impacts and the impact on the sense of comfort and warmth within the home’s spaces. As such, the pallet of materials focused on natural and low carbon materials." https://lnkd.in/e-5pCwAT
