Last week, I attended the CAWA Leadership Conference in Napa, CA. Marketing is often described as storytelling. We plan, write, and design everything around telling the story of our brand and how it brings something good into the lives of the people we hope to serve. As a marketer, I believe in that wholeheartedly. If you asked anyone on our team at Classy Llama, they’d say the same. But there’s another side of marketing that doesn’t get talked about enough. Stewardship. We’re not just storytellers. We’re stewards. We steward brands, whether they’re our own or a client's. We steward time. We steward resources. It’s not only about getting the right message in front of the right people—it’s about handling well what we’ve been entrusted with. Companies have the power to create change, whether on a global scale or in the life of just one family. Let's steward them intentionally, wisely, and with care. Storytelling is the exciting, creative part of marketing. Stewardship? Maybe not as flashy, but just as important. And it doesn’t stop at marketing. Anyone working in a client-serving role is a steward. Imagine how much stronger our organizations and communities would be if we embraced that responsibility with the seriousness it deserves. That’s one of the many reasons I’ve appreciated my time at Classy Llama. It’s a company led by people who live this out every day.
