YOU’RE GOING TO BE A TEACHER! A huge congratulations to Bettye H. Holston Elementary School special education paraprofessional Blake Hancock, Whitehead Road Elementary School academic interventionist Clark Pattman, Fowler Drive Elementary School academic interventionist Harold Faison, and Clarke Middle School special education paraprofessional Patrick Bishop, who have been selected as the inaugural cohort of the CCSD Residency-Based Teacher Apprenticeship in Special Education! This new partnership between the district, national talent development provider BloomBoard, and Lake Erie College, allows educators who sign an agreement to teach special education within the district to complete a three-year bachelor’s degree in special-education instruction. These employees will be able to work directly in classrooms and gain hands-on special-education teaching experience while earning a salary and course credit as they learn and demonstrate mastery in their work. These four individuals were selected out of a pool of about 100 interested applicants in the district, which was eventually narrowed down to a field of seven finalists before interviews and final selection to the program. They were surprised at their schools today by Chris Pendley, CCSD Director of Career Development; Dr. Selena Blankenship, Assistant Superintendent of Human Resources; Superintendent Dr. Robbie Hooker, and their school administration. In addition to their selection certificate, they were also presented with a welcome gift and papers to sign affirming their commitment to teach special education in CCSD. Congratulations once again to these cohort members and we look forward to seeing you complete your degrees and furthering your careers here in Clarke County! www.clarke.k12.ga.us #CCSDBetterTogether #OptimizedTaent

How do The Classic Center's partners participate in workforce development and continuing education? Akins Ford Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram offers a Technician Development Program as a launching pad for skill development in the?automotive maintenance and repair industry. Akins Ford has also partnered with Strayer University to offer full college degrees with no cost to its employees and their immediate family members. This means they can earn an associate, bachelor’s or master's degree, or take individual courses to upskill and reskill, without tuition, textbooks or additional fees. The degree/credits earned stay with the employee for life! The Athens Area Chamber of Commerce?supports the local education system?with programs like Adopt-a-School, externship opportunities, and more! ?On October 15, they kicked off the revision of the "Seeing is Believing Bus Tour". "58 people registered to spend ? day talking/visiting with students, teachers, and administrators with Clarke County School District. The entire group spent time at the Athens Community Career Academy and Clarke Central High School. A common theme in participant feedback was that it challenged what they thought they knew about the school system." #TheClassicCenter #AmericanEducationWeek

We are truly Better Together! Become a mentor and make a lasting difference in a child’s life!
Did you know that 1 in 5 Georgia high school seniors do not graduate high school? The Clarke County Mentor Program (CCMP) started in 1991 to help to improve graduation rates and to better prepare K-12 students for their future. Research suggests that students who are mentored are 52% less likely to skip school, 78% more likely to volunteer regularly, and 55% more likely to enroll in college. CCMP matches K-12 students in the Clarke County School District with an adult mentor. Mentors commit to one visit of 30 to 60 minutes per week during the school year, and the goal is to stay with your mentee until they graduate high school. I attended my mentee's moving-on ceremony yesterday. He just finished 5th grade and is headed to middle school next year. I am thankful that Jeremiah has allowed me to work with him. He is a bright, athletic, and caring young man with an incredibly bright future. My only regret about getting involved with CCMP is that I didn't do it sooner. We all are busy with our jobs, families, and daily lives, but if someone invested in you while you were young, I'd ask you to consider doing the same. If you have any questions on how to get involved, please feel free to message me! #mentor #mentors #mentorship #service #futureleaders #leadership

Paul Chambers graduated from Clarke Central where he had his first foray into journalism as a writer for the student newspaper. He majored in journalism at UGA and had a successful 35-year career with AT&T. How did CCSD prepare him for that success? He attributes his love of learning to his time at CCSD and says he learned accountability, how to get along with people, and the importance of being honest, on time, and prepared. His advice to students is to practice thankfulness and honesty every day.
Great Schools. Great Communities. - Paul Chambers
