This month, we would like to honor and pay respect to the Indigenous People who have and continue to build and protect the land we get to call home. Located in Bellevue, Washington, Clark Nuber acknowledges our use of ancestral lands of the Coast Salish people, including the Duwamish, Suquamish, Snoqualmie, and Muckleshoot tribes. Throughout November, we are pleased to share some information about these tribes and their impact on the foundation of our community. It is important to note that these four groups are not a comprehensive list of all indigenous tribes in the area; rather, we would like to specifically highlight the communities in our immediate vicinity. This Native American Heritage Month, we're honored to spotlight the Snoqualmie Tribe for their enduring history and culture in the Puget Sound region. The Snoqualmie people, part of the Coast Salish family, have nurtured the land of the Snoqualmie Valley in east King and Snohomish Counties with reverence and care since ancient times. In an inspiring testament to their resilience and dedication, the Snoqualmie Tribe reclaimed a significant piece of their heritage in 2021 by acquiring 12,000 acres of ancestral forestlands in East King County. This land holds cultural, historical, and environmental significance and offers a new chapter of economic opportunity for the tribe.
