Empowering youth through public service journalism. Founded by City Limits.
关于我们
CLARIFY NEWS is a paid internship for youth in public service journalism that launched in the Bronx in 2015 and now has more than 350 alumni from across all five boroughs of New York City. We are proud to extend City Limits' legacy as NYC’s oldest nonprofit investigative news agency by empowering youth and strengthening communities through this unique training program for high school students. We believe an informed citizenry is a critical component for a healthy, thriving community. Introducing youth to the power of public-service journalism not only gives them real-world work, civics, and writing experience, it also has significant downstream impact on the student, and society.

CLARIFY NEWS reporting interns were out in the field last week covering a rally protesting Uber lockouts. This week, among other assignments, they'll be visiting the newsroom of The New York Times, and getting a lesson in photojournalism from talented City Limits photographer, Adi Talwar. #youthjournalism #diversity #mediaequity

Exciting to see City Limits do a deep dive on Eli Dvorkin and I's research at Center for an Urban Future about the urgent need to decarbonize CUNY's campus, this generational moment for investment from all levels of government, and the immense talent at the university to get it done.

Where do people go when they leave NYC homeless shelters? For City Limits I investigate NYC's newly released data, the people it represents, and the system where few exit shelter and few find housing. What we don't know is as telling as what we do. It starts with Starlite: a success story. She got a housing voucher and found an apartment in Williamsburg, but not before bouncing between 8 in a year due to exits for medical emergencies and transfers. The data shows Starlite is one of a lucky few who exit to housing. On average, just 10 percent of people in DHS shelters exited each month, and just 2.5 percent exited to permanent housing. Over half of households in shelter exited "unknown" - more likely meaning they stay homeless than find housing, experts say. Read the story -> https://lnkd.in/eberj_U4

"As we approach the 50th anniversary of #supportivehousing, it is time we reflect on how far the movement has come and chart a course for its continued improvement well into the future. Albany must do the right thing by NYSSHP tenants and pass a stand-alone bill in the post-budget session to convert those 9,000 units to ESSHI. Now is the time to take the fundamental promise of supportive housing–that all residents deserve equal resources and care–and modernize and improve the model. By doing so, we can finally help New York end homelessness–and we cannot afford to delay," our Executive Director Pascale Leone in City Limits: https://lnkd.in/eA2vKABn #savesupportivehousing #endhomelessness

In the 50 years since the Equal Credit Opportunity Act, strides have been made in financial empowerment for women. Yet, for survivors of domestic violence, economic abuse remains a barrier to independence. Our recent City Limits opinion piece dives deep into this issue. Check it out for valuable insights from Nathaniel Fields, blair doroshwalther, and Teal Inzunza, LMSW.
