    Today is the last day of #HispanicHeritageMonth, and we are excited to feature another Clarian from our Latinx Clari Network! This week we're spotlighting Sofia Arroyo: Born in California and the daughter of a Guatemalan immigrant, Sofia was placed for adoption as a baby and moved to the San Francisco Bay Area, where she has lived since. At an early age, she realized that while the world saw her as Latina, she didn’t always feel “Latina enough” because she didn’t speak the language or grow up within the Latinx community. She grew up obsessed with finding out more about her Latina heritage and roots. She traveled to spanish-speaking countries whenever opportunities presented themselves, studied the Spanish language & Latinx culture (proudly graduating as a first-generation college student with a minor in Spanish from Occidental College), and even restarted Spanish classes during the pandemic - something she still does weekly to this day. She’s proudly a member of Latinas in Tech and has enjoyed connecting with Latinx folks from all different backgrounds and experiences. As she celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month, it’s important for her to continue to connect with other members of the Latinx community and share her experience searching for her Latina identity, to show that there is not just one definition of what it means to be “Latinx.” She is excited to honor the amazing, resilient family she came from, share the traditions of her heritage with her partner and family, and hopes that her unique experience as a transracial adopted Latina helps other adopted Latinx folks feel empowered to own their Latinx roots.
