We’ve been BUSY making dreams come true for our clients in 2022! When these clients brought us their ideas to add a master bath to their home, it was in the Fall of 2021. We knew that this design/build concept would take significant planning, so we were thankful to have our clients’ trust. They knew they wanted a modern, clean-lined esthetic with all the luxury details. And since this was a totally new addition to their primary bedroom, we took great care in the construction phase to keep the disturbances to a minimum. Take a leisurely tour of these photos and “soak” in all the modern, up-scale features: zero-entry DOUBLE shower with no glass doors to clean, black wall tiles that look like rusted metal, stainless steel black metal storage shelves, recessed LED lighting, and a super modern floating vanity with LED mirror lighting. It will be 80° this week, so it's still officially DECK SEASON. You can bet that these clients will enjoy their recently finished new deck. Their 20-year-old deck had been stained several times, and boards had been replaced over the years. They were ready for a "maintenance-free" outdoor living space. They also wanted privacy from the neighbors, so these vinyl "screens" were the perfect solution! We rebuilt the deck from the framing up. We used composite decking and vinyl railings, which only require a yearly spray-off, leaving the homeowner with hours more leisure time! Don't be too hasty to give up your outdoor time. This was another project that, when listening to client needs, steered our design. Glancing at the building plans for this deck, you can see that we've already designed this deck to become a screened-in porch in the future. So, when our homeowners are ready to go in that direction, the plan is already in place. Our design/build model is what keeps our clients coming back! Many things in a home age. Some of the more thought-of areas are kitchens and bathrooms, but what happens when your valued outdoor space becomes old and worn out? We find ourselves wanting to expand and update outdoor areas just as much as our indoor ones. Seeking new and maintenance-free materials is also at the top of the list when considering outdated outdoor "rooms." Recently, we had clients interested in these very things. Let's take a look at their Screened Porch Refresh! In this screen porch refresh, we tore down the existing roof, railings, and wood decking. Our clients choose to use all maintenance-free materials, so we installed a composite deck floor and vinyl railings. These materials will provide them with years of simple annual spray-offs. We expanded the covered screened "living" room, giving them an ample bug-free entertaining space. They chose a vinyl beadboard ceiling and recessed lights, giving the space a modern "indoor" look! Since we were tearing down the old staircase, these clients asked that we rebuild it coming down in the opposite direction. This change allowed them to use new space in their yard and under their porch. Changes like these make a massive difference to the homeowner but are not an big undertaking for our framing contractors. The bonus was that the open grill deck at the top of the new stairs was still a large landing before walking into the screen porch. As is our standard, we installed a true glass Larsen storm door and used @screeneze, a superior screening product. Public bathrooms are the bare necessities when shopping, traveling, running errands, or eating at our favorite restaurants. We all want access to public restrooms that are, at the very least, clean. Modern in style is even better! Recently, we had the opportunity to update the public restrooms in a popular buffet-style restaurant in Winston-Salem. The existing restrooms were old and outdated. They weren’t representative of the clientele that frequented this eating establishment. Plus, they were not compliant with today’s commercial construction codes or the ADA (American Disabilities Act) requirements. The restaurant owners wanted a total redo of the men’s and women’s bathrooms. This was a scheduling challenge in that, by law, you must provide a restroom facility in a place that serves food. So, the owners brought in the FANCY, stand-alone “portable potties,” and had those set up in the parking lot near the entrance. Since this was not the ideal way to offer public restrooms for the customer, the owners were anxious to make this a very temporary arrangement. So, we were given four working days to finish the project for both spaces, from demo to completion! That was a big ask and something we’ve never tackled before. It took a lot of coordination between supply ordering and layering the schedules of all the teams, including the demo team, our expert tile layer, our experienced electrician, and our favorite plumber. It also took several all-nighters! Below are the final pictures of the projects. For simplicity and aesthetics, both spaces look very similar. We stuck to tile and stainless steel, which are very sanitary and easy to keep clean. We updated all the code compliance. A trough-style sink with simple automatic faucets gives this bathroom an effortless look. Since we are licensed commercial contractors, projects like these are always a welcome challenge! Call if you know of a business in a similar situation—we’ve got the process down to a science. A cornerstone of our business is being a reliable port in a storm for clients. As a homeowner, you never know when a crisis will occur. And when it does, we are just a phone call away from starting the rebuilding process. Having critical rooms in your home turned upside down is never fun. These clients had an unfortunate water leak in this bathroom, so after they mopped up the mess, they decided to make lemonade out of lemons and called us. We gutted the space and kept the same layout but used all modern materials that put a shine on this 20-year-old bathroom. Two children usually share this room, so the double under-mount sinks and double medicine cabinets will aid in the time-share part of this space. The tile and quartz surfaces will be easy to clean, making the family matriarch happy...and everyone knows that if momma's not happy, nobody is happy! If you find yourself in a similar water "crisis," give us a call and let us help you take "Oh, no!" to "Oh, Yes"! A small business is all about meeting a client's needs. In this case, our clients had some physical disabilities but wanted to live in their forever home. We listened to their concerns about the space from a structural point of view, but they also expressed that they didn't want the result to be sterile and hospital-like. So, we designed an incredible Master Bathroom by taking a tired and worn-out bath and created an ADA (American Disabilities Act) compliant luxury space. The BEFORE and AFTERS on this project are a night and day total gut job...well worth the time to look at all the photos here! The custom cabinets have a roll-under accommodation for a wheelchair; we added grab bars next to the toilet and a solid tile floor for stability when using a walker or wheelchair. We removed the built-in tub and replaced it with an oversized, zero-clearance shower that is a masterpiece of beauty and function! With no curb to step over, it's simple to roll right in. The shower has many grab bars, no doors or curtains, and a handheld showerhead. These clients can now stay in their home forever! Please call if you'd like to live in luxury while aging in place! In addition to adding joy and versatility to your home, attic conversions expand your finished, heated square footage, thus increasing its financial value. This past summer, we completed an attic for a client, adding life-changing space to their home. We increased their total home square footage by a whopping 800 square feet! The new attic space was to be used as a “mother-in-law” suite. What also made this an unusual project for us was that the attic was large enough to warrant not one but THREE double-window dormers. These dormers added height and floor space to the living areas and aided in a ton of light flooding the rooms. There are no dark attics in this home! Below, you’ll find the BEFORE pictures of the attic. Study the old rooflines and compare them to the later photos of the completed dormers. You must have the utmost confidence in a contractor to allow them to cut three large holes in your roof! We put in HVAC access, electrical/internet connections, and numerous can lights. In the AFTER photos, notice the openness of the two-level living room and the privacy of the hallway back to the only bedroom. The bathroom has an extra large step-in shower that will be very handy for an aging adult. We also plumbed for a future kitchen. The floors are hardwood-like luxury vinyl plank for lasting durability and easy maintenance. If you are considering converting your attic space into real, usable space, look for a contractor with experience in this type of project.
