“This is Civity" podcast with Gina Baleria, Ed.D. dropped this week. I share my thoughts on a variety of insightful questions - listen in! - What is the significance of your role being intentionally named and filled at AmeriCorps? - Where have you experienced webs of connection and relationship forming in your AmeriCorps VISTA and Peace Corps service? - How does listening fuel action and community agency? - What are the persistent challenges, possibilities, and hopes for #bridging in national service? Civity is one of 5 inaugural applied practice partners supporting a joint initiative between AmeriCorps and Service Year Alliance. The multiyear effort is integrating and evaluating civic bridge building skills that will positively impact the service year experience. Learn more about the applied practice work we're honored to be doing alongside Civity, Braver Angels, BridgeUSA, Living Room Conversations and More Like US.

Founded in 2009, Welcoming America supported a grassroots movement of welcoming values and inclusive practices amid rising anti-immigrant sentiment. Since then, the concept of welcoming has gained momentum as communities unite to write a new narrative. In 2024, we’re reminded again that building bridges is more important than ever. As we reflect on the recent election, it’s clear that our work to build belonging and foster welcoming remains as critical as ever. Right now, we have the tools, research, and proven strategies to build resilient communities and resist divisive narratives. Welcoming is not just a saying — it’s a solution for equality and prosperity. Explore our report to learn where the movement has been and where we can go — when we lead with welcoming. www.stateofwelcoming.org
