Designing for Advocacy + Advocating for Design

关于我们

Civilization is a design studio that creates digital and physical experiences for fellow designers, architects, cultural institutions, and grassroots organizers. Our studio draws from design history and activism with the goal of producing creative work that is meaningful, delightful, and distinct. We specialize in building identity systems, campaigns, web design and development, exhibition curation and design, and experiential design. Our work engages with communities, builds platforms, broadens access to art and education, and challenges systems of oppression. ______________ Selected Clients + Partners: The American LGBTQ+ Museum, AMP: AIDS Memorial Pathway, British Columbia Parks Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation, Bocci, Burke Museum, For Freedoms, Miller Hull, MillerKnoll, The Newark Museum of Art, Now Matters Now, Olson Kundig, Recompose, Shout Your Abortion, The Nature Conservancy, The Smithsonian Institute, Vital Voices, Vocal Type

Founder & Type Conductor of Vocal Type Represented by Sunday Afternoon

I'm extremely late in sharing this here, but we, at Vocal Type, are proud to announce the opening of our second iteration of the _CHARACTERS_ exhibition. What started in Richmond, VA in 2022, is now in the Museum of Design Atlanta (MODA). Typography has long been a powerful force in the fight for freedom. From Martin Luther King Jr. to Eva Perón, Stacey Abrams to Harriet Tubman, _CHARACTERS: Type in Action_ delves into the impact of typography on social justice, examining its history and its role in today's movements. If you're in the area, myself and our amazing collaborators, Civilization, Kaleena Sales, Mark Baker Sanchez, and McNeil Signs, will be in town this week for the opening, panel discussion, workshop, book signing, and more. Sign up for these events via the link below. More to come! https://lnkd.in/dV3WypRe

Join us this Thursday at 3:30 pm PT for SHOUT! a virtual talk by Raya Leary and Michael Ellsworth from our team. This presentation examines how visual communication has been the rallying cry to address some of society’s most complex and pressing issues, from the anti-nuclear movement, Black liberation, AIDS advocacy, abortion access, to environmental justice. We’ll outline five social movements, their origins, impact, and eventual adoption into popular culture. Tickets available through AIGA Kansas Cityhttps://lnkd.in/ggUBx7mu
