We’re proud to announce the site permit approval for Linder Elementary in just 4.5 months! This project is one of 26 bond modernization projects we’re delivering for Austin ISD, which include 7 elementary schools, 8 high schools, 8 tracks, 2 stadiums, and a bus terminal. This summer, Civilitude has hosted four interns from across the US interested in the AEC industry ???? Sloan is a student at Occidental College studying Urban and Environmental Policy. Sloan has spent the summer with us utilizing research from our sister entity @urbinden to create fun videos aiming to create awareness of local issues relating to urban design. Rayan is a student at ACC pursuing architecture. Working under architect Peter Johnson, she has observed real-time projects and gained insight into the design process through drafting and site visits. Levi is a student at Texas A&M University studying architecture. Levi is enjoying learning about the role of architecture in the design and ultimate construction phases of projects. Inaya is a high school intern, learning how to translate ideas into real designs using various softwares under architect Peter Johnson. We are so proud of them taking initiative in their careers and are honored to be a part of their journeys????

Construction has officially begun for the Longhorn Dam Bridge off of north Pleasant Valley Road. The “wishbone” shape will connect three different points of the Butler Hike and Bike trail, creating a north-to-south connection on the east side of the trail. In this important public infrastructure project with HDR Engineering, Civilitude designed and permitted multi-phased traffic control plans. This project is partially funded by the 2020 City of Austin Mobility bond, and construction is set to be completed in 2026. We are looking forward to seeing the finished project improve pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure in Austin.

If you're an architecture & design nerd (like me), you've probably visited Dezeen a million times for research & inspiration. Having our first project featured here feels like a milestone and I couldn't be more proud of our whole team. Even more meaningful that it's a Foundation Communities project and was probably our most challenging design to date (beyond even the site constraints, we designed it during the start of the pandemic). Several of our team members cycled with @hypaustin on their Affordable Housing Bike Tour this past Saturday, organized by one of our very own graduate engineers, Evana Wang! 20 folks attended, leaving the tour more knowledgeable about the key factors affecting the affordability of housing in Austin and what can be done in the future for a more affordable and equitable city.
