Excited to gather with local elected officials across California for our 33rd annual Policymakers Conference!
Arrived in Yosemite Valley for the first day of the CivicWell Policymakers Conference to a breathtaking landscape and gently falling snow. After thanking the Board members, staff, and sponsors who make this event possible, I was honored to introduce our first panel comprised of leaders whose communities have been navigating disaster recovery: Monterey County Supervisor Wendy Root Askew, Chico City Councilmember Addison Winslow, Climate Resolve Executive Director Jonathan Parfrey, and Pasadena Coty Councilmember and LA Deputy Controller Rick Cole. The resounding message: building up the civic fabric by connecting neighbors and rebuilding trust through good governance are key.

Hi friends, CCEC has outdone ourselves this time! Check out the line up of valuable perspectives we've assembled for this Tuesday's LERN meeting (3/11 @ 11am) on energy affordability and the State's energy efficiency budget. LERN typically focuses on assistance opportunities that can support local energy and climate goals. We will continue to share a roundup of timely funding, assistance, and input opportunities. Given the changes to the local funding?landscape, we have been shifting our focus from just bringing speakers on single assistance opportunities?to instead elevating movement in the underlying policies that are affecting the energy and climate investments that eventually become place-based funding and assistance opportunities. For our March meeting, we'll dive in on energy affordability and the State's?Energy Efficiency budget, including recent?executive?and legislative actions that?could impact one of the State's only recurring energy and emission reduction funding sources.?Join us as we explore the need to address bill relief for local constituents, the real drivers of cost increases, and the important role of energy efficiency programs featuring: ?? Joe Desmond, California Efficiency + Demand Management Council ?? Chris Read, City of San Luis Obispo ?? Marc Costa, The Energy Coalition/LGSEC ?? Casey Daily, Western Riverside COG/I-REN ?? Steve Frisch, Sierra Business Council/Northern Rural Energy Network ?? Patrick Welch, San Diego Community Power

"My mother’s family lived in impoverished communities in the Philippines. Our family lore includes dramatic stories of surviving extreme weather. In one such story, a major typhoon caused extensive flooding that forced the family to flee to the rooftop of their home. My mother—who swam competitively through college—was sent to get food and fresh water, and her siblings share their memories of watching her fight against strong currents filled with debris and dead bodies, worried that the water would overtake her. Growing up, these are the images I would picture in my mind when I thought of climate refugees. The unfortunate truth is that we have climate refugees here in our own communities."
